I'm going on 40 in a few months, my periods are usually 3-4 days and not very heavy. the last two or 3 months they have been very very heavy and clumps/clotty but up to 5 days flow. I am now going on my 10th day of heavy heavy flow with clumps. Could I be starting the beginning of the end of my period? I am going on my 3rd box of tampons. Starting to get worried. What would cause my period to go on for 10 days? Tubes are tied. Please give me an answer. Thank you.

You are starting to experience progesterone insufficiency. Read this book and it will explain what's happening and what you can do about it. If you supplement with bioidentical progesterone, your periods will go back to normal, probably for quite a few years! Don't wait.
Title: What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Premenopause: Balance Your Hormones and Your Life from Thirty to Fifty by John R. Lee, M.D., Jesse Hanley and Virginia Hopkins. This explains all about progesterone and how to take it.
Be sure to get tested for iron deficiency, because a shortage of that will make you bleed even more.

I also had the same thing happening about the same age. I bet it was starting to be the end of my periods. My cousin, same age, is having bleeding all the time and is also hoping that it's the end of her period too. Wish there was more written about it. I wish I'd known about the hormone replacement before I decided to get an abulation to fix that issue for good. The abulation created scarring of the uterus and I had extreme pain for the next 6 years until I finally had to opt for a hysterectomy. I opted to have my ovaries removed, not sure I would have done that again, but I had a premonition that I'd get ovarian cancer. Now I'm in menopause and using bioidentical hormone replacement to fix myself up. Do try the progesterone and do read Dr Lee's book! DON'T have an abulation and keep your ovaries if you can.
