Hey there.
My boyfriend and I are not ttc, and have always been very assiduous about contraception (condoms, usually) yet my period is about a week late, this month. I'm concerned that I may be pregnant, and if I am I would like to take care of myself so that the child will be unharmed by any bad habits.
I recently got off Birth control, due to a lack of funds to purchase my pills. I had gone without them until my next paycheck on the 7th, and had missed a week's worth by that time. So, I decided that rather than risk messing up my body, I would wait until my period started this month to resume.
Ordinarily i would have waited to have sex until i started up again.. even with a condom as a backup... but our anniversary came and went, and needless to say, we wound up doing it anyway. As usual, we used a condom. There were no signs of leakage, and I made him pull out. (Health class jitters left over from high school, I suppose)
A little later, maybe a few days, my breasts were -very- sore. It hurt to have them rub on my shirt, or bounce around. I'm a small cup size, and rarely do my breasts hurt when I PMS, though it has happened before when I've gone off the pill during a prescription change, etc.
I have Not experienced any nausea, vomiting, cramps, headaches, or even back pain! Not beyond the norm. I don't even really have any of the usual symptoms aside from fatigue (probably due to starting a new job that is more physically demanding than my old one) mood swings, a bout with sore breast nipples that went away after a week and a half or so, and a missed period. It's probably been about two weeks almost three.
It should be noted that I am a very moody person by nature, and i do get hungry when i experience PMS. I can't tell if the symptoms are menstrual or pregnancy-related.
My cervical mucous seems to mirror my mental confusion. It seems like it keeps changing on me. My breasts were sore and I had a HUGE excess of it around our anniversary, far more than normal, even off the pill. It had calmed down by that time, but there was still a good deal of it. Slimy stuff. Not a few days later I went completely dry and then a few days after that, I wound up with the white, goopy stuff again. My cervix went from soft to hard, and vacillated between the two with varying degrees. I keep getting sharp pains in my uterus-area too.
On top of that, my period is about a week late. I took two pregnancy tests (early hpt's) , and both were negative... but still, no bleeding. Not even a discoloration in the discharge. My cycles have always been rather painful and irregular. But still, I worry that the lack of bleeding might be cause for concern.. if not pregnancy, perhaps something else is causing this.
I've not touched my pills, yet; and I am debating contacting my doctor. But before i spend that money, I want to know if there is still a chance that I might get my period this month, and that I am not a soon-to-be momma. If there is a low chance, then I will contact my doctor about further testing.
If you don't mind, could you offer some input?
Thank you!

If your periods are irregular then there is a chance you'll still get it. Sore breasts though could indicate pregnancy. I know what its like not to have the money to see the doctor. I had no insurance for a few months before I got married...I had to pay two hundred dollars to see my OB/GYN so I could get birth conrtol. The discharge though and the sore breasts could indicate other problems too. You could have a vaginal infection or something like that. I know its hard when you have to pay out of pocket, but if you don't get your period soon and the discharge continues andthe pain in the uterus area.....I'd recommend going to the doctor just to be safe. Untreated vaginal infections can lead to more serious conditions and if you are pregnant then you can at least know for sure with the blood test they'll give you.
