You poor thing that sounds worrying. You must see your GP asap or even go to the A&E immediately if you are bleeding from anywhere other than a period.

Hi there,
I.too. am hypothyroid (underactive) since age 16, but am now well, finally, at age 59, after decades of suffering with it. It ranks as one of the most undertreated illnesses in the country.
That being said, If the blood was bright red, I would suspect that that it came from a broken blood vessel just inside the rectum from straining to go. If the stool was streaked with black or had the appearance of coffee grounds, that would be more worrisome. Only you would be able to tell if your cramps are from your intestines or from starting a period, but with your condition, chronic constipation comes with the territory until properly treated.
Some bad bugs like salmonella and shigella can cause severe intestinal pain and bleeding, and can be serious. If it was a broken vessel, it will probably heal quickly.
If this doesn't pass within 24 to 36 hours- get to a doctor, and good luck!
If your underactive thyroid is not being treated, try a dessicated thyroid like ThyroGold, or Armour Thyroid. I can make a huge difference.
