My husband has been diagnosed with polymyositis. Doctors recommend medications like steroids, but I doubt only medications will help him. I would like to know something more about rehabilitation. Is it recommended for this disease? I think that physical therapy can do him good. I will really appreciate all your replies.

Medication is important: prednisone to stop the inflammation, immunosuppressor (methotrexate) to stop the process where the immune system attacks the muscles. If these are not working, intraveinous immunoglobulin might help. Polymyositis destroys mostly proximal muscles and they need to be rebuilt by means of physiotherapy and daily exercise for stamina.
