post hemorrhoidectomy without BM

Thank you for posting your somewhat comical report, I'm on day 4 without a bm after surgery, glad you posted how many days it took for you.

Please don't gofor operation if u feel fine.I was also fine I feel before my surgery.the surgery is a nightmare.I wish I had gone thru this thread before my surgery..I got mine stappled a week ago.my doc told I will be gud to exercise after two day...she was a liar..I have itching, uncontrollable urge to go to toilet and feel depressed all the time...so please if u r feeling fine never even think of operation...

Snap mine was Friday 3 days ago. I'm in agony every time I pass wind but I still can't open my bowels. I'm having lactulose 3 times day but for my pain they gave me codeine which causes constipation. So can't win. I'm eating fibre in my diet . Think I will have to change my pain killers as can't do without them. The urgency is getting me down as still don't pass motion just blood. Apparently it gets worse before it gets better.

And don't push or you could undo everything

I've been told not to use toilet paper use baby wipes as softer. I'm day 3 after op and had enough already. Fed up of the urgency every 5 min but despite taking lactulose 3 times a day still can't go. Dreading it when I do.

Hi I am day 4 of staple hemroidectomy and I've never felt so down. Every half hour I have the urge to go for bowels but I sit there and pant but I don't push because of the stitches and staples. I had no sleep last night was up down till 6am. Finally passed a bit and was like I had glass up my bum. Now can't go again despite drinking lots water and eating fruit. Also when I go the toilet I bleed so gets me down. I know this will get better but wish it would be soon .

I just want to let everyone know who’s going through recovery now that it will get better! There is hope. And though it may not seem like it at the time, I promise U there is a light at the end of the tunnel. I got this new post notification today, and after reading he posts on here took me right back to my recover and I don’t miss it at all and I feel for everyone going through this. I remember how the pain was so bad and I wud search the Internet all night and day for some kind of answer. Not all post
Made me feel better, some of them are quite scary! But it has been almost 2 yrs since my stapled hemmroidectomy and I have to say it’s the best decision of my life. I suffered from internal and external roids. My surgeon said on a scale of 1-10 my were a 9. Some of the worst he’s ever seen. Recovery was hell. I remember not being able to go the bathroom for about 5 days afterward, despite drinking magnesium citrate amoung other things and nothing was working. Finally ended back up in the hospital and had to get an enema. U think u can’t go to the bathroom now, just get a forced enema by a very rough nurse. U have no idea wat pain is. And they knew it was gonna be bad, so they shot me up with morphine 3 times before giving me an enema and I cud still feel everything. It felt like a 2x4 made of splinters, glass and fire. My whole lower body went into convulsions. Then they dragged a littleness bed pan chair thing over by my bed and 30 mins later my poor husband had to help me out of my hospital bed and sit me up on this bed pan and hold me while he watched me sh*t all over myself. I was screaming bloody murder. In all the painful things I’ve experienced in my life I don’t think there’s anything worse. And talk about humiliation. I’ve even had people tell me that have had a lot of surgeries including open heart that this is by far the worst and they weren’t kidding. I spent the next 3 days in the hospital. They only let me go home after I had 3 bowel movements. They put me on miralax 3 times a day, and I didn’t believe it at the time, but miralax was a life saver. Of course it takes some time to work and u have to take it every day. After the hospital I thought I was out of the woods. Wrong. I refused to eat because it scared me. I started out at 140 and by the time the whole thing was over I weighed 120. I couldn’t sleep, I cried constantly. I was weak, tired. Ass hurt. And theres this little thing they don’t tell u about it’s called anal leakage. Thats depressing. I thought that was never ending. In the beginning I was convinced I was going to die or that I had been botched. That my ass was stapled shut or they had stitched me up wrong. But I’m a hyperchondriac so of course I always assume the worst. But this isn’t no easy surgery. It become a an real emotional battle. It can really bring you down if u let it. Thank god for my husband who took care of me and put up with my relentless crying. It took me a total of 12 weeks to fully recover. It wasn’t awful, but I promise it gets better and soon u will Ben so happy you had this done. Before I had money done I couldn’t even walk. My life revolves around epsom salt baths and I end packs. I can do anything now.

Hi I'm day 8. The first week as been awful. I am having lactulose 3 times day but only had b.m 2 days ago and it was agony. Also itching. I get the urge every half hour it's driving me mad. I'm shattered and still bleeding off and on. When I'm on the loo i blow out seems work.

Hemmoroids and had a stapled Hemroidectomy. I am on my 8th day counting down every second.

I did not have a bm until day 4. That was as painful as child labor w a lingering pain afterwards. I’ve had a bm every day since in excruciating pain. I have to sit in a warm bath at least 6-8 times a day. I have had to pass bm’s In the sitz bath for relief and to not lose my sanity. I have nearly gone through all my Percocet and have no appetite. I call the doctors office because I almost passed out after having diareah, I drank too much milk of magnesium the night before to avoid hardening stools. Won’t do that again. They told me that I should be eating solids which I can barely muster. I agree with previous comment. I don’t think they know the exact magnitude of pain we are talking about. The 1-10 pain scale goes out the window here. I thought I would be able to go back to normal activities after 5-7 days. Not the case, I have lots of swelling which makes me feel like I have to push, muscle spasms, I cannot stand too long or sit at all. I lay around all day waiting for a light at the end of the tunnel then the pain meds effect run out. I don’t know when I will be normal again, If I knew I would be living this way I would have passed. Good luck to all and God Speed.

I am day 10 postoperative emergency haemorrhoidectomy. I say emergency as I had an acute thrombosis into a preexisting pile. This meant the pile swelled to about the size of half a golf ball and was bloody agony. I was told I had no choice but to have an operation. I suppose the best advise I could give anyone having a planned elective procedure is to minimise food for intake for 3 days or so before the operation to a high fibre sloppy diet like oatmeal, vegetable soup etc. As my op was done as an emergency I had not prepared my bowel in such a fashion and oh boy the constipation has been the biggest problem for me. I have been passing urine from the outset without too much trouble although the increased anorectal fullness has lead to increased frequency. I was unable to have a BM for the first 6 days. This was despite regular a very high fibre and liquid diet alongside laxido and fybogel. I also limited my analgesia to simple paracetamol to avoid the potential constipating efffects of codeine and NSAIDs........ by day 6 the fullness in my rectum was becoming unbearable and so I resorted to an over the counter micro enema and high dose laxido. Within 24 hours I had pretty unpleasant diarrhoea but still felt that the poop was still in me. Now it being Xmas day and living in the U.K. I did not fancy spending all day on an NHS bed in a corridor as I new it would be considered low priority. Warning: the next part is fairly graphic so I would apologise in advance. Anyway in short I ended up improvising a home made enema kit with a 2 litre pop bottle cut at the top attached to some tubing. I got about 750mls of bath water in me and try to resist the urge to poop for about 5 mins..........thereafter I had the best c**p I have ever had. The amount of backed up poop was incredible. The next day I had a soft normal stool although the urge that there is still 'unfinished business' in my ass remains even after the poop. I have taken to doing the daily enemas to clear out any remains. I am sorry for grossing anyone out but it works for me although I still have the feeling of something remaining in my ass which is very uncomfortable. That said I am improving and would reassure people about to have this surgery things do get better with time but be prepared.

I had a stapled hemorrhoidectomy 3 days ago. The pain when the anastethic was subsiding was bad. The pain was bad but not untoleratable. Im 21 and have a couple of run in with hemorrhoids a couple of times one whcih ended up with a external hem surgery. It took over a month to heal the last time. The internal ones prolapsed about 2 weeks ago and i was just done with it, even though it gotten smaller i couldnt bear with having to deal with it my whole life so i had this procedure to remove the internal ones.
The pain was not unbearable but i was just upset of knowing how mich time the healing was gonna take. I had a slight bm (slight cause it was all water and blood) on the second day at night. And in total had 4 back to back bm which consist of mostly water. Still waiting and dreading on my actual bm. I didnt take as much painkiller as was prescribe cause i think the less the better. Just relieved that mine doesnt seem like a painful one compared to others on this thread... i hope you all have a speedy recovery and a full one. No more hemrroids in the future!!!

Dont worry it will get better. I am 8 days out and for me after the third to fourth day things started to become a little more tolerable. Hang in there your not alone, we will all get through this together

I've had surgery for internal hemorrhoid a week ago and still haven't had a bowel movement. What can I take to help me get relief?
