Some persons after going through traumatic experience in lifetime, like a serious car accident, or war disasters will develop the nightmares and panic attacks. In this case it is believed that a person has post-traumatic dress disorder, or PTSD. Every person is individual for itself, so it reacts specifically to trauma too. Some researches indicate connection between cortisol, a hormone secreted by the adrenal gland in times of stress, with occurrence of stress and trauma. These studies suggest that it is mostly inherited. PSTD patients have lower-than-average levels of cortisol in their blood, so they are not able to react to stress properly.
