Hi there
Since the age of 12 iv suffered really bad with my periods at 12 i had to be put on the pill to stop my heavy periods, coming up to my periods i suffer the normal symptoms,, hot flushes, night sweats, mood swings, bloated etc but iv never been regular and im now 24 years old, my periods have got worse has i have got older, now when i come on i get terrible abdominal pain to a point i feel like im going to pass out, i start to vomit, can't get off the toilet, and use a big box of super plus tampax within 3 days, all this time i have been crying out for help i have visited my doctor on numerous occasions and have been made to feel its normal, i asked to be refured to a gynaecologist but unfortunately was told it wasnt necessary and prescribed all sorts of pain killers which i haven't taken, I dont want to have to take pain killers for the rest of my life every month, also me and my husband have been trying for a baby for some time now and its just not happening.. could this be due to anything? neither me or my husband smoke and only consume alcohol moderately,  I was wondering if you could give me any ideas why this is or some advise on how to help, i would be ever so greatfull.

kind regards
Nikki

Good Morning! First off..I want to say that I am not a doctor, but I do have alot of personal experience in the exact same issue as you described. Ok, I was wondering wether or not you are currently taking oral contraceptives, and if so, what kind? (Including any hormone realted device, like a Nuva ring or Mirana (IUD)).. From what you have said, it could possibly be what is called PMDD (premenstrual dysphoric disorder) Let me ask you this..Do your symptoms begin about a week or so before your period starts and when your flow begins, the symptoms start to subside only to come back just before your next cycle? Are the symptoms so bad that they actually interfere with your daily life? Mood swings, severe cramping..heavy flow just to name a few are some common symptoms. But on the bright, if it is in fact PMDD, it is treatable with medication (not painkillers), but generally thesedays they may use a oral contraceptive like Yaz along with an antidepressant type med like Zoloft. The best advice I can give you is to seek out an OB/GYN doctor and go see them. I know that with some insurance companies you need a referral from your PCP, but if you do not need a referral, then do some searchin, maybe a physician referral service. I truly think that getting an OB/GYN will be the first step towards you feeling alot better! Best of Luck!

Hi there
Thanks for the information.. I'm not taking any contraception and haven't for almost 9 years now, me and my partner are trying for a baby but its just not happening, i was thinking it might be something to do with it, i.e (one of the symptoms?), my mums always told me she thinks i may have endometriosis! and to be honest i did a little research and all the symptoms sound the same, I explained this to my doctor and asked to be referred to a gynecologist but he wont, is there anything else i can do or see? thanks again.
