I am 2 weeks and 4 days post op from L5-S1 TLIF. Onset of pain was 14 years ago. Spent the better part of my life getting epidural injections until they stopped working. Very active 44 year old into sports, running, and lifting weights (not a body builder but lift for health). After last issue switched from running to swimming for cardio. Focus of pain was in right hip with numbness down right leg into toes. Anytime I was active, it put me down for a few days. . Needless to say, I was in great health before the surgery.

Had surgery on March 25 and was released from hospital. Released on the 28th. Surgery was more difficult than I envisioned. Woke up with a lot of pain. When I arrived home I stayed on the pain meds and muscle relaxers. I walked around the house. It spent the majority of time in bed.

10 days after surgery, I cut out all medications and started walking. Initially for 20 minutes and worked up to 45 minutes a day. Feeling really great overall but surgery site is still a little swollen. And "achy".

I have been driving since I came off pain meds. Had to adjust my seat for comfort. Difficult initially getting into and out of vehicles. Much better now.

Follow up appointment is tomorrow (17 days post surgery). I fully anticipate returning to work immediately.

Hi, I had my spine fusion 6 weeks ago I'm doing fine and have no back pain but feel tired and get upper back and hip pain if I over do it. I can't sit for too long. I have to wear a brace while sitting and walking. I'm only taking pain killers at night to be able to sleep. My surgeon has recommended to take things slowly and not to rush. I'm not allowed to go back to work for another 4 months and not allowed to drive for 12 weeks. I'm hoping to get back to my normal life. I sometimes get pain in my leg if I walk or stand for long. I wish everyone good luck for this surgery as mine was successful and take it easy after surgery.

Out of curiosity what do you do for work? I had the L5-S1 fusion on February 26th and my dr hasn't given me a date to return to work yet.

After being on pain meds for a while I went to a low Testosterone clinic. I had almost NO testosterone in my body. Have that checked and after a few months your body will "re-boot" when your ejaculations are reminicent of when you were 17...thats when I stopped and have been great ever since.

If you had the surgery from the front it's known to cause you to ejaculate into your bladder. The fix is a vasectomy if it doesn't heal after a year

I have to say that is incorrect to a point. Bc I had a L5-S1 lumbar fusion and was told i would lose around 8-10% of my bending mention. So u do lose some but not a lot

That is totally incorrect. You most definitely lose movement!

This is not true. When two vertebrae are fused together you lose the motion where those two vertebrae could bend prior to fusion.

The lower L's 1-5 have control of quite a few areas. The sex organ, Bladder, etc :( I'm a female going through the same. I've done lot's of research to find out all the effects.  You will likely have to have another surgery :( If you have the time look up (CNC) @ https://www.nlm.nih.gov/?_ga=2.81966486.1659748585.1498572705-912764833.1498572705 I knew if I went back I would find it google L 1-5 & S 1-5, what organs, and nerves does it affect pinterest? Hope this helps you Lori
