49 years old - PhD. I've had 7 previous surgeries. I'm fused from S1-L4. MRI, MRN, CT, CAT, BONE SCAN, X-RAY Shows nothing extraordinary beyond previous surgeries. I had an L-4 nerve block last year on right side, 10 days later all hell broke loose. Extremely severe right side lower back pain/right leg pain (toes). This new severe pain appears to be right sided S-1 nerve root pain. Hard to explain since nerve block was at L-4. I am on high doses of oxycontin/neurotin. I've tried virtually every test known to man. I have no life. I need to find someone who can spend time on my case in state-of-the-art facility. I will travel anywhere. I need help. Time is running out. I live in San Diego near UCSD.

I have had ruptured and herniated discs over the years. It sounds just like the sciatica that I endured over years. After one surgery, I continued to have pain and insisted that the doctor do further tests. As it turned out, there was a small amount of the nucleus that was not removed and continued to put pressure on the spinal cord. The surgeon had 2 other doctors observe while he went back in. They found the missed material and removed it. My back pain lessened then in the normal fashion. I still had some continuing pain a year later and had to go to pain management to get further assistance with the pain. Don't let the surgeon convince you that all is fine by just looking at xrays. Please have someone do another MRI to ensure that there is nothing further causing the spinal cord to be pniched! Good luck, I know how hard it is to convince people about the pain without them seeing spurting blood.[/enc]
