has anyone had problems with sexual side effects with lantus? it seems like since i started lantus, i don't have the desire for sex at all. i am not responsive to my husband's advances and i don't really care to even get affectionate, which isn't like me at all. if the lantus is responsible, i think i need to find something else to be on. we can't go on living like this. my husband is getting frustrated and i am stressed.

I do not believe that you are having sexual problems because of the Lantus. Diabetes itself can be the culprit. I am unsure how long you have had diabetes or how your blood sugars are as far as controlling them, but this could be a significant factor in your having any pleasurable feelings related to sexual foreplay or intercourse. You can talk to your doctor about what is available for you to help you get yourself back to feeling “like a woman” again. You may see what getting your blood sugar normalized does for you. Give the Lantus a chance… it may regulate your blood sugars and you will begin to benefit in more ways than one. J Also you can check around and see if there are any herbal supplements that may increase your libido. It’s worth a shot to see if there are any that puts the spark back into your relationship.

I had trouble getting frisky with my hubby at a time and I was really distraught about the whole thing... I read that diabetes can make you desensitized "down there" and other places. Since I started my medication it seems that everything is starting to be back in working order again. I would wait it out if I were you. If you are following your diet and your medication starts kicking in, maybe things will get better for you. Just give it a chance.

YES YES YES, insulin subcutaneous injections can and do cause big problems with our endocrine system, and affects sexual desire, intimacy, and causes apathy. And why should it not. When an individual has experienced a great reduction in function and desire to sex, this is significant. Don't tell a person that they're crazy, or you need to see your doctor. Doctors have no bloody idea. Nada, zilch!!
Once again, long term studies have yet again failed to identify every possible side effect. To the lady that wrote in to ask the question, you're not alone, and YES it does affect your sexual desire and function. This happened to my partner after starting subcutaneous insulin, and it's not brand specific either.
Where to go from here.... stop insulin and die, or go on in a sexless marriage? I have no answers, but to change lifestyle completely to see if diabetes can be reversed.
I'd like to hear from more people about their experience with sexual dysfunction after insulin.
