Hello. I am 54 years old and I’m an epileptic for about five years now and ‘till now I had a really good control over my condition, especially over my seizure attacks.
My neurologist prescribed me a Phenobarbital and I’ve been using from the beginning of my disease but recently I started to feel headaches and sickness and I stopped using it for a month or two. I started again using it but same symptoms occurred.
Because of that, I was thinking that I should change my medication. My friend who is also epileptic is using some new drug called Zonegran. It really helped her and she said that I should also consider using it. Should I start to use it? Do I have to inform my neurologist about it?

First of all, you must NEVER again consider starting using a new epileptic drug without a professional opinion.
That is extremely dangerous!
If Zonegran is taken with certain other drugs, the effects could be increased, decreased, or even you could get an effect which is most unwonted and that is intoxication and eventually death!
Even your doctor will not prescribe you Zonegran if you are allergic to any sulfa drugs like Bactrim or similar.
Did you get the point?
Talk with your neurologist and see do you have all specifications to use all benefits of this new drug.
Don’t do anything by yourself!
