I have suffered with chronic hives for 12 years. I have wheals, stripes, dermatographic, just to name a few. I take hydroxyzine once a day and it keeps them at bay. I was taking Benadryl but it did not seem to help. Hydroxyzine has been my saving grace.

I had the worst hives imaginable for months... At the time, prednisone was the only thing that would make them go away. But, that was not a long-term solution. I went to a new rheumatologist, and he prescribed Colchicine, a medication traditionally given for gout. It was like a miracle… As soon as I started taking it, the hives went away and they have not returned. It's been six months so far.

Hi
I was diagnosed 6 years ago with primary SS and also have flares of hives and angiodema. (Tongue lips swell) Mine seem to be triggered by either hot or cold and for sure stress. I try to use antihistamine and using ice on hives helps:)

I have grave's disease for 15 years. The past 6 years Secondary sjogren's And I have had chronic hives for 5 years. I have been to dermatology and I have been to allergy.
I would like to tell you what has helped me. I take one over the counter Claritin during the day time Usually about 3 o'clock and that will keep me from breaking out at the in the evening. Dermatology has added a prescription called ATARAX a very small dose I believe 5 mg to be taken at night time that will help me if I'm breaking out in the morning which tended tends to be my time for hives. Both have helped tremendously I have not been having The daily itching and hivesThe doctor told me this was a safe regimen for a long time and maybe at some point they will go away.
Can't wait for that to happen.
The only thing is that Atarax may increase the dryness but it was well worth it to not have the hives for me. I could probably get by with just Claritin daily.
I hope this helps.

Your situation sounds similar to mine, I'm diagnosed with "chronic iodiopathis urticaria" and along with a ton of antihistamines only find relief with Prednisone. It's been 3 months. My allergist says the Sjogrens and thyroid autoimmunities are impacting it. Starting some immune suppression drugs soon, after flu season--i am a teacher and the kids share germs!

I was happy to see your post about SS hives. I also am dealing with the hives issue. I was diagnosed 10 years ago, the hives started about 6 months ago. But recently they appear daily on my scalp and face. The hips, hands and arm-pits don't upset me as much. If I take a antihistamine, I can't swallow later. I'm very dry. Thanks for your info on the Zyrtec.
