Hello! I just got back from the hospital where an ultrasound was performed. The ultrasound showed some white spots on baby’s bowel. They told me to come again in a few days for an amniocentesis. What is this for???

The white things in the baby’s bowel can be signs that the fetus has a chromosomal abnormality. The most common is Down syndrome, but please don’t get so alarmed before you do all the necessary tests. The risk of the Down syndrome in findings of these so called echogenicities in the baby’s bowel is only 1.4 %.
