Hello. My sister in law is 39 years old and she got pregnant. This is her first pregnancy and she is very afraid that something like Down syndrome could appear with her baby. I would like to know whether this syndrome could be found by the ultrasound. I would appreciate all your answers. Bye!

Hello. Well, it doesn’t have to mean that your sister in law will get a baby with Down because she is in that age. However, there is a higher risk. Ultrasound can be helpful in discovering this syndrome. By ultrasound, doctors measure a special region on a baby’s neck. This procedure is also known as nuchal translucency screening test. If there is Down, then more fluid is accumulated in this region than normal. However, there are other tests as well. I hope your sister will be all right. Good luck!
