It's very difficult to tell from a scan (whether ultrasound, CT or MRI) if an ovarian mass is malignant or not. The judgement is made on a combination of the appearance, your age, any syptomoms you may have and blood test results. If everything points to benign, then they will adopt a policy of "watchful waiting" which is obviously what happened to you. If things change, the situation has to be reviewed. In your case, the mass grew: this means the possibility of cancer has to be re-visited. This doesn't mean that you necessarily have cancer, but it's something that has to be consdered. I suspect your gynecologist will recommend a laparoscopy to have a look at the mass, biopsy it, and perhaps remove it.

Waiting a month to see him/her will be hard, as no-one can really convincingly reassure you until then. Although the problem isn't strictly "urgent" from a medical point of view, it certainly is from the point of view of your anxiety. IS there no way you can get the appointment brought forward?
