Hi, I wanted to try to control premature ejaculation by SSRI’s. I heard about it from a friend, but I am afraid how my doctor would react to such a preposition. Is it safe to use SSRI’s for premature ejaculation?

Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) are safe and useful in treating premature ejaculation. It is not FDA approved, so depending on your doctor’s beliefs and former experience, he may or may not advise you such a therapy. Some men use desensitizing creams containing local anesthetic agents, as they are also effective. If premature ejaculation is related to erectile dysfunction, drugs for the treatment of this condition include sildenafil (Viagra), vardenafil (Levitra), tadalafil (Cialis), alprostadil (Caverject, Muse). Anyway, don’t start to take any drug on your own before consulting your doctor.

I know that this is an old post, but in the event that anyone may read it, I had to put my 2 cent's worth.
I'm sorry, but you should do a lot more research into SSRI's and their side effects. After reading them, you will realize that it would be CRAZY to go on these meds for this type of problem. Yeah, the FDA says it's safe and secure, but really look at some of the side effects. You would be better off beating off 10 minutes before than subjecting your brain to artifically high serotonin levels.
