Hello there,

I'm nineteen, I wasn't on contraception, until 3 weeks ago when I was put on the birth control pill "cilest."

The first time I took it I was very nauseous, and have been off and on, every day, ever since.

I've had headaches too and weird crampy things.

I started the pill the day my period started, and the period lasted a week.

Following that I've been spotting off and on but there is now an odour and within the last 4 days the discharge has become black.

I'm very worried and am going to the clinic tomorrow to find out what the hell is wrong with me. I will post the results as soon as I know!!!

What is occurring is probably nothing that you should be worried about. Since you haven't been on the pill before or any form of contraception, your body is trying to get use to the extra hormones that are in your system. The symptoms that you have listed off are nothing to worry about, and are even listed in the warnings that come with the pill. I experienced the same symptoms when I started it but they gradually went away. The black discharge? That is old blood that was still left over from your period since you started taking it when you started your period. Your body is trying to expel it and since it is old blood it will have and odor. But, one thing I would talk to your doctor about would be if the dosage that you have is too high because that could be a possible reason for nausia, but as I said, even I had it when I first started. You'll probably have the spotting your first three months of taking it. But try not to worry too much :)

For the past 4 or 5 months, Ive been bleeding almost everyday. Sometimes its just spotting, other times it's really heavy. But I also have been having a brownish/black discharge. I know most people will say its probably old dried up blood from inside me, but really, shouldn't I have bled all the dried up blood out of me by now? Often there's a terrible smell, too. Sometimes a little musky, sometimes terribly "fishy" and I can smell it when Im out and about during the day, and I worry others can smell it too; its horrible. Im a hypochondriac, so Ive been researching frantically, and have had fears from an STD to TSS take over my mindset. I know I should go to a doctor, but I just can't afford it. I tried using an OTC bacterial vaginosis gel, similar to vagisil, and that didnt really make a difference. I'm a lesbian, so Im not concerned about miscarriage or anything, clearly, and not so much an STD. And to top everything off, Ive already been diagnosed with herpes (type 1), so Im wondering if it could have anything to do with that. This is my last hope and if nothing comes of it, Im going to have to go to a doctor, because I really just cant stand being so uncomfortable and self conscious. Help?

Hello

Ever since starting my periods 10 years ago. they have never been regular. Infact, I have only ever had about 10 natural periods in all the 10 years. but 2 years ago they completely stopped. I was passed from doctor to doctor and diagnosed with PCOS (Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome) and doctors have trialled several Contraceptive pills ( about a year ago ).

I am currently going through fertility testing and this so far has involved just blood tests. I have not had a period in 4 months.

But 2 days ago, I found I had a small (about 50p size) black discharge in my underwear.

My breasts have become very sensitive and I have been having abdominal pains for the past 2 days.

Is this a sign that I might be coming on my period naturally? (if so WOOPPEEEE) - Or could this be a turn for the worst?

I would also like to add, that I have recently been losing weight in order to help my PCOS and so far have lost a stone. Could this be anything to do with it?

Some knowledgable guidence would be much appreciated.

I have a similar thing and I have had it for a while and I am a vergin, and I do not do any type of sexual activities due to religious purposes so I have ruled out STD's and this occurs after my period. I am not particularly worried but it's bothersome and it happens some times and I really don't want to perminatly wear pantie liners :(

I had sex yesterday morning, then that night I got a huge black stain in my undies. I freaked out. So it is just old blood?

I researched this and i think that it is old blood cleaning you out b4 ur first period... Which just means that you will probably get your period soon. Good Luck and Im on the same boat :)

I have had regular periods for years. My last 3 have been different. They have been much lighter. I was freaking that I could be starting an early descent into menopause or some other health problem. Now there's this symptom. I'm someone whose always used rolled up tissue for my periods.  Some people talk here about being on birth control and thinks coming out black. I had that years ago when I was on it for a few months(for no reason as I wasn't sexually active so was stupid of me). That was completely different to what I'm experiencing now.  Now it's like one of those old fashioned ink pens they use for calligraphy dropping a splotch of jet black ink mixed with a touch of water. It was on the tissue behind where there was red dried blood from my period ending.  The first time I saw the black ink blot I thought it was because I tried a new liquid eyeliner and it had somehow gotten on the tissue from my hand. I haven't been around that eyeliner in days and it has happened again.
