I've got the same problem. I'm 14 years old, and this has happened to me as long as I can remember. When I was younger and had a couple of surgeries on my ears and I know that I am a synesthete, which means that my mind will cross two senses for one stimuli, like coffee emits hot pink steam (The smell is hot pink). It's caused by faulty brain synapses (or, at least, that's what I've been told. Scientists aren't sure). Both things could/do mess with your nervous system. Does this have something to do with it maybe?

I would imagine it is connected for you somehow but what is the cause? have you had an MRI? Is anything visible? I have similar symptoms to these but slightly different. I have Ehlers Danlos Syndrome and Dysautonomia which is a dysfunctional autonomic nervous system which often goes along with EDS. I'm 39 and have had a few accidents and injuries to my head which do show up on an MRI - there is scar tissue and calcification on the back of my brain where the fracture what. There is evidence of light pressure of the external fluid that is between the brain and skull is pushing in on the right hemisphere and there is something with the frontal lobe they say is common with such jarring and that area hits the front of the skull (softening maybe). I would like to have an MRI sitting up to see if there is a chiari problem. Anyway, none of it has damaged my iq since that is from the left side of the brain. But it has caused all of the automatic functions of the body to malfunction for year - digestive issues, heart rate, temperature regulation, delayed adjustment from changing position (POTS), over insulin production etc. The worst problem is unstable mast cells which releases histamine into my body at the drop of a hat leading to shock sometimes. I take excellent care of my health and still digress each year. This year I got under a lot of stress and hurt my hip and started having what looked like seizures through my whole body. I was sick at the same time so problems the mast cells were out of control. Afterward, the spasms migrated. They seem to zero in on old injuries. If I rub a muscle it may spasm. The worst is in my neck and shoulders. It looks like a shiver sometimes and sometimes it makes my arms shake violently. It hurts my neck and when its in my legs it hurts my hip. That is partly the EDS. They are called PSEUDOSEIZURES. They are common in other EDSers since nervous system problems are common with EDS. Even MS has a high comorbidity rate (coincides with) EDS. So somehow now when a muscle tenses or relaxes, like when I lay down at night to sleep or sit down after working on my feet a while, it will spasm. Also if the muscles get too warm it will increase. Even someones hot hand on my forearm or leg may cause it to spasm. I often feel a pressure throughout my body, especially with a warmth or yellow color (from my mind's eye) in my spine. I really hope it goes away but it is definitely part of dysautonomia which is worsened by stimulus such as stress or anything that tenses the muscles.

I know what you're going through. I've had the same thing happening with my head jerking to the left since I was about 16; which makes it about 7 years now that it's been happening to me. It happens at random and I would like to know, too, what they are. Since they didn't seem to harm me and they didn't occur all that often, I decided not to ask a doctor about it but then I go through times where they are constant (like if it's cold outside or I have a drink of alcohol). It is something that I would like answers to as well!

I just learned that Seratonin Syndrome can cause this. If you have taken an anti-depressant near the onset of symptoms, that is likely the cause. It can take months to years for the symptoms to stop. I took an antidepressant for 4 days in July when I told the doctors I was NOT depressed. I think my seratonin was already too high and taking it made it even higher and started the pseudoseizures.

There is a correlation to a gene CYP450 and seratonin syndrome. The gene test is called P450.  It tests for 3 liver enzymes. If you don't have those enzymes, you wont use many meds properly.

I'm having the test done. Let me know if you want more information about it.

my 15 year old had this happen to her two years ago they were really strong jerks her neck looked liked it was doing a head banging for a rock video or something,it was scary to watch, and she was in the ER,already in a bed.they finally gave her Benadryl through an IV.The movements slowly stopped, after about two hours. Then just yesterday it happened again, only the movements, jerks didn't last as long nor were they as strong and this time she had trouble walking straight. So I made a follow up appointment at Children's and the DR. told me that it a form of Dystonia.CAlled Cervical Dsytonia.Other than that they don't really know why or what causes it.so anyway I hope this helps somehow.

Mate, it happens to me as well. I am having them whenever they decide to, and it gets quite uncomfortable when i am with my friends :/ I usually find that a sharp, quick pain gets rid of them for a while though, but the only pain that works is when you pinch underneath the biceps. They seem to happen mostly when i feel people are watching me, so when i am subconciously nervous. I also have a problem with severe multiple personalities, so yeah. Could be a connection or something, i aint sure yet.

Hi. I'm 13 years old and this has been happening to me a lot recently... At first i thought I was just turning my head to fast, but then it happened again when i wasnt even doing anything. my neck mainly turns to the right about 60 degrees i think and then it might have jerked back once but not totally sure. it hurts some and then later on or right then my neck cracks... i read about the tourettes online and it looks kinda like my case... it's really scaring me and i read its a disorder ): i know it says caused from stress but any TREATMENTS to get rid of it?! I wanna go to the doctor soon but i'd like to make sure i have an idea of what's going on...):

I found this site when my myoclonic convulsions throughout my entire body were at its peak this past September. I was having ticks and jerks and then convulsions too.

It turns out that as I have cut out many foods and all medications and supplements, it is slowly getting better. I had a liver enzyme test done and found that faulty enzymes may be at the root of the problem.

There are some chemicals in medicines, supplements and foods that my body cannot process.

The trigger is different for everyone so you will have to learn by trial and error.

Some suggestions would be to change out your laundry detergent to a 'free and clear' type. Cut out processed foods. Eat more organic foods. I had to cut out fruit. hen I eat it, I'm terribly fatigued.

I'm wondering if you happen to be hypermobile too? Are you very flexible or maybe double-jointed or have joint issues like dislocations or subluxations (like if your back goes out easy and other joints seem to not sit right now and then)?

I have the same neck twitching/twisting you guys have, but with random shivering attacks (in no way dependent on temperature). Really hope to find out what exactly I have.........

Btw, I'm 17 years old and find it a weird coincidence that most of us here are roughly 14-18 years old - is this something that affects young people only?
