Sudden jerks/spasms in shoulders and neck.

how the f**k do you stop this sh*t from happening ?

It first begins unconsiously and then subconsiously and when you jerk is when it became consiously.  Think about it the only time it happen is after you thought about it. It happen that one time for the first time caught you off gaurd and you subconsiously worried about it ever since. STOP THINKING ABOUT IT!!!!! If you cant purchase some St. John Wart. This is a natural herb to stop you from worring about it and other things you may be worring about and get on with life.

That's the exact same thing that happens to me...except, it's not just when I flip my hair. It only happens a few times a week for me...

I have almost the EXACT SAME THING HAPPEN TO ME. I'm 14 now and they started when I was 13. They used to only be in my neck, very similar to the 60 degree angle thing. Then it transitioned down to my left shoulder and now whenever I get them, it pushes my left shoulder blade up and forward while pushing my neck to the right. Before she realized that I wasn't doing it on my own, my mom would yell at me to stop it because "people would think I'd have Tourette's." I don't know what's so bad about that; she never told me. I think she's going to take me to a doctor for it because it's been getting worse. I usually get 15-30 a day.

I am 27 and have had this problem for about 3 years now. I first found this thread about 2 years ago and I couldn't find anywhere else describing this weird symptom. Mine happens normally with temperature changes if I have a cold or hot drink or if there's a sudden cold breeze. It can happen on its own and usually happens 1-3 times per day. When it first happened I was worried about what people would think but now I don't care so much. When it happens in front of people they often ask me "what the hell was that??" but people sitting next to me at work have never asked which is great.

When it first started (and I don't know if this is related) I also got a myoclonic twitch in my right ankle that mostly comes on when I'm nervous. Also my face droops on the left side and I mostly talk out of the right side of my face.

I eventually saw a neurologist about it but after having a brain MRI they could detect nothing wrong. I might be having a cervical spine MRI in the future. It seems like a few people here started getting it when they injured their spine.

I too am nam vet with some frontal lobe apathy and dupremes contracture in right hand. up to 3 or 4 times a day I have sudden and violent neck jerks, sometimes just to one side, sometimes to both sides which is very painful.usual followed by tingling sensation in neck and shoulder which last for minutes. have talked to va dr several times about this but like my dupremes contracture, they say it dosent reach level to do anything about.i took my malaria pills faithfully and according to dod, my company took 3 direct drops from operation ranch hand.once at nha bhe ,twice at bein son rubber plantation. I just don't know.good luck mohouse ps I was diagnosed with ptsd I 80s,lots of meds, could be problem there.

I get one in my shoulder/neck where my left shoulder will come up and pull my head to the left. i never know when its going to happen  and its over before i realize it has happened. i have also noticed when i tilt my head back slightly when drinking that when i swallow my left shoulder goes up and down and i cant stop it. Only bad bang to the head i remember was as a small child i fell off a bike thing and knocked a couple of teeth out but the twitches have only happened since i was about 17 & i have never noticed a time or pattern with them other than mostly when i am sat down.

My son is now 20 and has had this for about ten years now.  I finally brought him to the neurologist and he was diagnosed with a mild case of Tourettes.  I'm wondering if any of you had a heart condition?  He had surgery for an Atrial/Septal defect at age 6.  These "twitches" started a few years later.  I always wondered if there was a connection?

 

This happens to me too im year 8 now but I think it started in year 6 it only happens a few times a month but my neck goes only 40 - 45 degrees and I hope it doesn't get worse. Now that I probably jinxed myself I'll just go...

The jerking motions you all are describing is a type of seizure. The seizures are called myoclonic, and can happen on one or both sides of the body, but typically happen in the neck and back. Some people describe them like a big electric shock. I get them too. Most people don't have pain from them, but I do. They shoot pain up my head and through my head (different directions at the same time) and  also into my tongue. Sometimes my tongue feels partially numb for hours afterwards. People who have them should be seen by their Dr.

Hello everyone. I feel exactly the same as described. i don't know if this has anything to do with it, but I also get  leg twitches. In got corrective spinal fusion surgery a year ago and had very adverse reactions to narcotics. I'm 15 and have been having these for a while and they just recently fort worse. Email me if y'all have answers. :) I've researched a lot of types of epilepsy and Tourette's and hopefully that's not the diagnosis. Thank you!

i'll be sitting still, and all of a sudden, a tingly, "electric"-like sensation will flash across the back of my neck and head; as this happens, I usually abruptly inhale (like a gasp but my mouth is closed, and my head jerks to the side/downward while my shoulder on the same side jerks upward so that, often times, my shoulder contacts my ear. All of this happens incredibly quickly, i.e. in less than a second's time. im 17 ...been happening for a year now...........i want to go to the doc, cant tell my parents cause they'll probably think im wack....
