My two cents: I also get head/neck jerks. Usually to the right, 60-90 degrees, mostly just laterally so no tilting. I also occasionally have arm shudders? My hand or arm will flap a little. These actions both happen in a moment, so I can't tell if I could control them or not. Never painful, somethings my neck does audibly crack though. Always accompanied by a spine shiver. I'm currently 19 and this has been happening for at least a few years now. Not sure how frequently they occur since I always fail in properly logging them, but not nearly as frequently as many people on this thread. Less than daily, at least once every two weeks if not more often. Sometimes its due to a temperature change, but I don't think this is the only factor. I don't think stress has affected it for me. I do not think it has increased over the years. Haven't seen a doctor about it since it hasnt really caused me any issues besides dropping a pencil a couple times, but maybe one day I will get it checked out. I'm more curious than anything.

Hi, I have this problem but, although similar, mine is different than most. My neck makes my head jerk backwards and then back upright again. It's severely painful. I'm afraid of the tests to find out. Anyone have this?!

This is strange, how the majority seem to be in the mids of puberty, while others have had medication in the past, have a physical of mental condition or are elderly.

My immediate presumption is a hormonal imbalance, however in my case I do spend a lot of my time with my neck craned over a phone or textbook. I have been having shoulder and neck "speudo spasms" for around a year now, I am 16, 4 months and have just started a levels.

Other factors which I am considering are a lack of exercise, cracking joints frequently (almost every part of my body, excluding my neck, cracks extremely easily), a problem in the brain and a genetic disease.
Again, I am only 16, nowhere near a doctor or neurologist. If I ever find anything, I'll return with news.

You! With the concussion... I had been in a coma after a head injury from a drunk driver t-boning my car on the driver side in 2001-I was 21. I lost memory and my left part of my brain was damaged( that side controls emotions and memory) .
I ALSO HAVE pTSD from being in a violent relationship in which I was Beaten in the head for about two hours on passing in and out on and off.. I’m Now 37
and I have jerks to the left. They are quick spams.
Mine have gotten worse in more recent years.
GO GET A NEUROLOGIST!! Get an mri/or cat Scan . It gets worse !! Im struggling to get referrals to help figure out if my
Neurological damage is worsened or if this tick
/spasm is a more severe issue from brain damage . Studies are done and some folks have this as a symptom of the beginning stages of Parkinson’s or Mulstipke sclerosis. An 8 yr old boy had a germ peoblems and his psychicatrist ( whomis also His uncle) pushed for scans and found a tumor that was causing the brain to rage . They caught it early enough and couldn’t operate .
His quality of life is now 200 times better ! Seek medical attention and keep
Up care if you’ve had trauma .

I have sort of the same thing. I shiver goes down my spine and almost at the same time my neck twitches to the left violently. No matter in what temperature I get this. I got it alot as a child, but my neck didn't twitch, now my family is noticing.

My right arm will spasm an make a cracking sound as it pulls or jerks, involuntarily. I spilled a drink as I was picking it up,it looked like I knocked it over , all at the same time ,think this is joint problems which could be a arthritis, affecting the joints in my body.

I've just turned 24 and what you've described perfectly mirrors my symptoms... I've had the shiver thing almost as long as I can remember, but the head jerk is only about 7 months

So I get these random head jerks and arm jerks. At random times from who knows what, my head and or neck with twitch to the side (right or left). Sometimes when my head jerks/ twitches my arms will too. My arms will jerk in the way of me almost quickly reaches for my neck. I'm thirteen, soon to be fourteen so I'm pretty concerned as to why this is happening. I also believe I may have bipolar disorder and when I get my twitches/ jerks, that's when I'm at on of my "lows".

The only reason why I'd be on here is if I didn't have it myself... I'm beginning to think that it's pretty visible when my neck just turns to the side... It's uncomfortable for me and Idk if other people have seen me "spaz" for lack of better words... It's pretty quick. But I do have sudden jolts in my neck quite a lot. Could be due to poor posture or stress... Possibly carrying something heavy on your shoulders... Idk but I would like to know what is wrong with me and how I can get rid of this because this is annoying...

I get these a whole bunch as well, my mom calls them cold chills, but it no longer is limited to when i am cold. And the period of time that it happens has upped from about a millisecond to a full on 'one mississippi' and I am only 15. They do not seem to occur when I am in class, but they can happen up to fifteen times in half an hour. It has progressed over three years, gradually getting longer and more frequent and I am starting to be a bit concerned about it, but I won't be sure about anything until I am able to speak with my doctor about it.

I have never felt so related to in my life. I don't really know how long I've been having these but it's not something I want. I would have these random jerks in my neck and I would constantly do it about 3 times. My mom and family see this while my twin sister also has the same thing but hers isn't as intense as mine. I should be going to the doctor soon to get it checked out for the new year. Wish me luck.

I have the exact same thing but mine only happens if I catch a shiver, like not just if I’m cold and it’s different then shivering but if I get a shiver down my back I tense up my shoulders and my head jerks to the side and I can’t control it

I get sudden twitches in only my shoulders. It's like both of them twitch but instead of a twitch, it's a giant uncontrolled shake. When it happens it's like a shiver, but it's not normal. I feel it at the base of my neck and it goes down my back a bit then disappears. I do shiver normally, but they don't cause a huge jerk like that and it just doesn't feel the same. Is this a normal thing or do I have some sort of medical condition because nobody else seems to have problems like that no matter how hard I search in person or on the internet.
