Hi Missouri, Well it's now been nearly 3 days since my surgery and the pain is still there but out of 10 it's about 1. Still have not been to the toilet and I'm in no hurry. So overall it's pretty good as i said before mine was a large case of prolapsed hems and it was bigger than what the surgeon thought so after hearing that i'm quite happy to be up and moving around after 3 days.
I think i'll still suffer quite a lot once i get back into bowel motions but at least i've got some fast acting pains meds for that and a nice hot bath as well.
My doctor only suggested to only do a enema before surgery but i think if you do a complete bowel evacuation it would be a lot better as this will give more time for the area to heal before the first bowel motion. And as suggested everywhere else make sure you have stool softeners after every meal and try to limit yourself to small meals (vegetable only) and no snacking and if you do snack only fruit.
One thing i noticed after every surgery the first thing they offer you is WHITE BREAD !! sandwiches (well they do in Australian hospitals) and i think this should be a no no as the best thing would be to offer some from of Bran cereal or something like that as when you come out of surgery all you what to do is have something to eat and drink and white bread is not the best thing to have.
Another thing if you have water retention after your surgery like i did try the old running water trick when you have your pee it worked for me every time.
If anything else happens i'll keep you posted and i'll try to answer any questions you have.
Cheers and good luck with it all.

WOW got over a major hurdle today my first BM !! WOO HOO !!! since surgery. It doesn't sound like much but like the rest of people out there that have gone through this it's a great step to recovery. I tried going to the toilet the normal way, over the bowl but my god i found it a lot better in the bath tub in hot water (YUK) i know it sounds disgusting and it is but hey NO PAIN !! just a lot of pressure!! felt like I was giving birth to a orange. lol.
After 3 and a 1/2 days I don't need to take any more pain meds only for when I do bowel motions. Thank god for Di-gesic's (fast acting pain relief only takes about 15mins for these suckers to kick in) now i don't feel so cramped up any more. Now things should be a bit easier from now on.
One thing i did notice nothing was moving till I had some licorice (a great laxative) today after eating a couple of pieces everything started to gurgle and about 3 hours later bang !!
Now i can get a good night sleep !! so good night.
