Hi, I am 27 years old and ORIF surgery has been performed on my ankle couple of days ago. Doctors have implemented intramedularry rod for stabilizing the bones and all that ifs left for me is t endure the rehabilitation process. But the problem is with swelling following ORIF. Is that something normal or should I contact my doctor?

You can always contact you doctor and ask for an explanation. Most probably, swelling is a result of trauma ankle sustained during surgery. I mean, it is a procedure during which bone surrounding tissue might be irritated and that might cause swelling issue. I assume that you have already been given some meds as a counter measure. Still, if the swelling persists, make that call.
