I had my son about a week ago. The doctor had to manually remove my placenta which wasn't pleasant I must add but I couldn't put my legs together for at least 3 days. My labia seem very swollen and itchy since I had my baby. It wasn’t like that while I was pregnant. Is it normal? The hemorrhoids are still terrible and I hope they will heal on their own.

I my boyfriend he works in ER and he said that It's perfectly normal for your labia to be swollen and sore after a vaginal birth. The process of giving birth does tend to traumatize the tissues in the vaginal area; fortunately your body's ability to bounce back is equally miraculous. The tender treatment you're probably already giving your perineum are ice packs for the first 12 - 24 hours and warm, soothing sits baths after that. Within a few days to a week the swelling and soreness of your labia should begin to subside, but if you haven't noticed significant improvement by then, be sure to ask your doctor about it.
