I lost my sense of taste about 6 months ago. Saw an ENT doctor, had a CT scan, thorough examination and all is fine. He feels it may be a virus! Sense of smell was gone as well. After a course of steroids, I did get some smell and taste back but I have not sense of taste for sugar either natural or artificial. Fruit tastes horrible, anything with artificial sweeteners in it are aweful. Have done nasal rinses and am on another course of steroids. Doctor tells me if it doesn'wt come back within another 3-6 months, it likely will never come back. I am healthy, have very good oral hygiene, never had a cold or sinus problem that triggered this, just really came out of the blue. Has anyone else had similar symptoms and did your sense of taste ever come back?

SOS. Why are all these people having sweet taste issues and no one has a real solutions? What could it be. I have been in the medical field for 25 years and have never even heard of such a thing until it started happening to me last week. Everything sweet tastes absolutely horrible even fruit. I drink a kale and blueberry protein shake every morning and it now tastes aweful. I have also been having daily head aches like never before. does anyone have an idea as to what is going on?

Dear Ryan....I know you posted this a long time ago and I hope you check it every now and then. I am a mouth breather...have been for many years due to nasal passages closing during sleep. I lost my sense of taste for sweet things about 10 days ago. It started with a sore throat but I do not have a cold. I am not congested at all. My doctor took a throat culture and that came back negative. So you think my taste buds are dried out??? I drink water throughout the night because I am so dry. I will definitely give your idea of the nose strips a try! I never would have thought that. I really hope this works because not being able to taste your food is horrible. God wanted us to enjoy our food and dang it I want my taste buds back! :)

I have had the same thing happen to me but have been advised that it might be ( in my case) from an herbal preparation containing feverfew and that this has been an allergic reaction -- I've now had this since Sept 17th so it has been about one month and it does not seem to be getting better-- I will visit a specialist to see if he has an answer

The problem with not tasting the sweet is that, at first, you think something is wrong with the food so you eat EVEN MORE. It's been three weeks and I am still in shock. I LOVE sugar...and I cannot taste sweet.
I have gained weight just from trying different things to see if I can taste them! You do NOT want to have this happen to you. If anyone has a solution, please let me know...I am reading through the posts still, but so far, zinc and vitamin b12 is all I have seen.

Has the allergy med (antihistamine) helped you taste sweets again? I'm using the neti pot sinus rinse and may start a 10 mlg antihistamine for sinusitis. That's all I and an allergist could come up with for lack of taste, sinusitis. I can taste candy like chuckles, candy hearts, jelly beans but not a lot of other foods. I think it was all the sinus drainage and like you said on the back of the tongue. That is especially at night when lying flat so taste is worst in morning. I had figured and then confirmed a lot of c**p in the air last 3 years is an irritant for the sinuses. People said I sounded like I had allergies and I have none. So what irritates their allergies gives me sinusitis. I think it may get under control with the neti pot rinse and antihistamine.

Same with me. Especially with coke, girl scout thin mints and my favorite black raspberry ice cream. No taste or weird taste???? Hope it's temporary. No effect on salty foods.
