I am wondering if you have regained your sense of taste. I too am going through this with no help from my PCP, ENT or dentist. I will try the Oxylift if you believe this has helped you. Thanks, Lee Ann

Bactrim is bad, bad, bad.  I took it for a month and loss my sense of taste for sweets. I believe this drug is the cause.  After 33 days my taste for sweets is starting to come back.  I have seen 2 ENT's and have taken 4 different Rx's plus Super B-complex vitamins, amino acid supplements, zinc and biotin.  My sense of smell has always been OK.  I do not know if any of the meds or just time away from Bactrim is the remedy.  I am happy to discuss with anybody who wants additional info.  Good luck.

I've been on the amino acids/zinc for 32 days, but still no change in my taste. I will continue this for maybe 3 months in hopes that it will eventually kick in. The original poster said it started to come back in 30 days, so, all I can do is wait.

Unfortunately, I think it is worse because I keep looking for something I can taste and taste good.

I had a tonscillectomy 5 weeks ago...I haven't been able to taste sweets since :(  I thought it would help with night time sugar cravings but no such luck...just makes it worse as nothing seems to satisfy.  All ice cream taste like nothing for the most part...even artificially sweetened stuff (which is usually super sweet to me), nothing.  Sigh...

Once it happened to me (lost ability to taste sweet), I thought the same thing as you...

I've been struggling to keep to a healthy weight all my life (I'm 42 now...long time to be struggling) and my biggest downfall is sweets, especially at night when I get insane sweet cravings. That being said, my cravings didn't go away just because sweet foods are no longer sweet. At present (5 weeks into this issue), I'm really struggling to know what to do when cravings strike...I tried eating lots of carbs (rice, potatoes, etc.) but didn't really help and ended up eating till I was nearly sick. Unfortunately I was still going mad for sweets :( Its an awful predicament to be honest.

After visiting with my dentist, he referred to me an oral surgeon.  He then referred to me a oral pathologist.  Unfortunately, there are none in my area.  If someone who like me is suffering from lack of taste and distorted taste would have one of these doctors in their area, it might be worth a try.

I've suffered from bad oral thrush outbreaks for 30 years, ever since getting cancer treatments in high school.  Loss of taste is one effect, and I find that it can linger after the yeast infection has resolved.  A really bad outbreak will strip my tongue until it's bare and raw.  Depending on what part of your tongue is affected you may lose the ability to taste sweet, sour, salty, or whatever.  The good news is it'll grow back.Read up on Oral Thrush if you experience a loss of taste.  See if you have any other symptoms.  Antibiotics can cause it.  I'm susciptible to it, and I can accidentally trigger thrush by using mouthwash too much, eating too much candy or sugary food, or feelling stressed out.  Anything that upsets the balance between bacteria and yeast.  (Both of which are normally present, and keep each other in check.)Trust me.  I'm a connoisseur of thrush.

I've now been on the amino acid/zinc regimen for 2.5 months and no change. So, I guess that won't work for me.
But, I did hear about this thing called "Miracle Fruit" that makes sour things taste sweet. Since sweet things taste a bit sour to me, I thought this may be the cure. It comes in tablet form and you dissolve it on your tongue.
It finally arrived today and here are my results:
When I tried eating chocolate afterwards, there wasn't much of a change. But, this thing is supposed to work with sour things,so I sucked on a wedge of lemon, and it was quite good! It did change the sour to sweet for the lemon, as it was supposed to do. So, now I need to experiment. I may try a lemon filled donut to see how that tastes. Meanwhile, I wanted to suggest to you folks, who, like me haven't been able to taste sweet, to try this, as lemon may be the new chocolate. (sad but true).

Yeah, kind of worried. For a couple weeks now I have noticed things don't taste sweet to me anymore. I still taste flavors but the actual sweetness is almost nil. I noticed when my wife asked why I was adding sugar to my sweet potato that she had already added cinnimon and sugar to. I just got home and opened a Coke which are normally super sweet and I can hardly taste it. I can taste salty and flavors are just fine however things just don't taste sweet to me. I hope this temporary. I don't have a cold or any other ilness to my awareness.

I have the same problem as the three you mention, no obvious health problems just loss of taste of sweet but mine comes and goes.  I will taste sweet normally for months then notice that my cola tastes like club soda.  I had a strange incident the other week I had rasberry iced tea sweet as can be i accidently sipped from my grandson's cola and it tasted like club soda oddly when i sipped my tea again it was just bland old tea, never noticed it happening that quick before.
