A friend of mine suffers from Multiple Sclerosis and this is why I am always on the look out to get more information about the condition. I have always thought that Multiple Sclerosis was not hereditary, but now I have been told that specific genes have been linked to Multiple Sclerosis, obviously making genetics a factor. Can anyone tell me more about this?

Indeed, several individual genes have been specified, and a lot has been written about this. We are talking about differences in the so-called HLA system and chromosome 6, as well as mutations of two other genes. At the same time, Multiple Sclerosis is still not considered to be hereditary - I am not sure what the exact criteria are for that either.
