in 2008 I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer after finding a large swelling on my neck. I have had my thyroid totally removed and have been unlucky in my recovery in that I have had damage to my vocal chord and 2 years on have had 4 treatments of radioactive iodene. My cancer has spread to my chest area now and I have been told that I will have to have radioactive iodene treatment indefinately to control it. I constantly feel tired. My neck area is as painfull now as it was after the operation, and I have all the usual sleep problems associated with thyroid removal. I have every confidence in my doctors who are looking after me as they are always on top of things. The question i have is if someone is one of the unlucky ones that do not servive thyroid cancer what generally are the symptoms to look for and what generally is it about the cancer that eventually takes your life? I have had as I said radioactive iodene. Is this the only treatment for thyroid cancer? Can I be involved with trials for possible break through treatments for thyroid cancer? I look forward to an answer to these questions as probably would many others.
