it could be a trigger point in the levitator scapula region that causes referral symptoms along the back of the neck to wrapping up onto the right side of the scalp. Referral symptoms start as a tingling and can work its way into feeling like full on migraines.

Hey I read your post and definitely FEEL YOUR PAIN!! I've been experience this awful "tingling" sensation for over 19 months! I use to have a pretty bad cocaine problem and had just quit using and so I figured at first when the tingling set in on right side of my face by jaw that I thought it was just simple side effects that would go away in time. Unfortunately the tingling, instead, began to spread and went up right side of face by my temple and also under and above my right eye. Feels like an hour glass pouring sand behind my eye. Then about 6 months later it went around right side of head and up and now it tingles from top right side of head down side around temple, into my ear and into jaw, right eye and cheek area. It drives me mad! I've been to doctors, neurologist, physical therapist and massage therapist and they're all pretty stumped, if they even care at all. I thought maybe caffeine (redbull) might be adding to the tingling so I cut all caffeine out of diet for over three months and no difference. Sometimes I'll have a "good day" and feel relatively normal followed by two to three weeks of "baaaaaad days" Sometimes it hits me early in the day and is gone at night, sometimes the other way around...I usually have some intense tingling at least some portion of the day...I'm sorry to hear others have these same symptoms and probably not everyone here has abused drugs like. I've felt guilty like I caused this and also that maybe I deserved it...but I feel it's been going on for soo long that not even an ex-junkie deserves to feel insane with an awkward pain. Some things I do to combat it is lots of hot showers which can sometimes give me some relief and even icy hot on my neck at night which has helped on occasion. Pretty desperate for relief so if anyone else has found some ways to alleviate the pain I'm all ears (with one of them sadly tingling).

In May, I started experiencing Tinnitus, or a ringing in my right ear. After a week, it was followed by numbness or tingling on the back of my head and right cheek, also around my ear. It is all focused on the right side. I went to an ENT and he discovered I had partial hearing loss, caused by an autoimmune virus that attacked my ear. He put me on some prednisone for 3 weeks. I also had an MRI to make sure there were no tumors (it was all clear).

My hearing was restored, but I continue to have the right side of my head with that tingle. Some days are worse than others, so I don't know what exacerbates it.

After blood tests and general check up, my family doctor things it's a pinched nerve and it's also caused me stress and anxiety. My dog passed away, my job changed and this all happened at the same time, but I have not felt the same. I also have two small kids, but I feel like I've always been able to handle them.

I've been put on a small dose of Lexapro and Wellbutrin, but it's been 3 weeks since they added Wellbutrin and I don't feel much better. The only time I feel better is after a massage or after I take .5mg of Lorazepam.

I still question this- this is the longest time I've ever felt this bad in my life and I can only keep going back to the virus that occurred a few months ago. I have heard of others with similar situation, but with vertigo, which I did not have.

Many on this forum have mentioned interesting possibilities. I previously worked at a mental enhancement company (alieving issues and increasing capacity and abilities for people who were already thinking well). When we did the exercises associated with increasing the brain's capabilities, our clients would often feel a tingling sensation. The sensation would vary from person to person, and could range from a warm/cold feeling all the way to bugs crawling under the skin.
The reason for these feelings was active neurons excited, making connections or being ready to do so. The tingling would most often be in the head, but could sometimes be felt in other parts of the body- neurons (brain cells used for thinking) are also known as nerves in the rest of the body. Some clients also experienced up to headaches after especially hard mental workouts. (Drink lots of WATER!)
I'm not saying thia is exactly what is happening with everyone on this forum, but it could account for many of the posts I've read here, and especially in the cases if meditation and prayer. Those who were close to their menses, high or low blood sugar, and those who have recently quit smoking, etc., could be experiencing this due to a fluctuation in chemistry, as these things all effect how our brains function.
In the case that you think this could be what's happening with you, you can find out what part of your brain is 'growing' by looking up brain map images (easily found in a web search). Some examples would be: back of head, visualization; front/forehead, behavior and higher function; band across the top of the head ear to ear, hand-eye coordination.
Have fun growing your brain!

My doctor suggested that it may be the trigeminal nerve that is pinched or having issues. Not to be confused with Trigeminal Neurolgia, which is very painful for those that suffer from it. Massage and mild dose of muscle relaxers have helped me, but it hasn't gone away entirely. Still looking into this, but I am buying into the nerve theory and hope that it is self limiting.
