Hi Naved Ahmad

Ovulation occurs mid-cycle, but can vary from between Day 11 and Day 21 of a woman's cycle. Rising estrogen levels trigger the LH surge, which causes the follicle to ovulate and release an egg. It's important to chart your basal body temperature and LH surge so you know when you ovulate.

Assuming that your GF had periods lasting 7 days, yes, unprotected sex episode was well within her fertile days. Assuming fertilization did take place - the fertilized egg then undergoes several divisions to form a structure called the zygote. It moves into the uterus within a period of 5-7 days and is then termed as embryo.

In the uterus, the embryo implants or attaches itself and burrows into the endometrial. After implantation it secretes a hormone called human chorionic gonadotrophin (hCG) which helps maintain the pregnancy. This is the hormone analyzed in the blood/urine to detect or confirm a pregnancy.

So, pregnancy, if any can only be detected after six ro seven days. Best, this test can give better results after a week when she misses her next periods. Conducting this test within few hours of sex cannot give reliable results.

If you have doubts, better conduct a clinical pregnancy test - at least a week later. Good luck
