I've had this problem for almost a year and had every test done imaginable with no results until finally I got a doctor that discovered vulvar dystrophy which is like a scarring of the tissue that causes the burning and itching as well as the painful sex. I am being treated with a steroid cream and it seems to be going away. Next time you see your doctor ask them about this to see if that's what you might have... This was a lifesaver for me, I thought I was going to live with this forever......

I have the same problem, I believe it is a woman thing with the age thing!!!  I am 43, not on birth control and the week before my period I am extremely itchy and a day or two after my period is gone!  I have used the external cream by Canestan and that seems to help relieve some of the itch.  It is not a yeast infection.  My doctor told me to try Hydrocortizone (over the counter) cream, but it didn't work, the Canestan seems to work best (I've tried hydrocortizone, vagisil and lanacane - they didn't work).  Good Luck ladies

I'm 33, not on birth control and this has been happening to me every month about a couple of days prior to my period. This itch seems to be worst the night before my period. I drink tons of water and take good care of my body. I don't know if this is related or not....but my husband and I have been trying to concieve for about two years now with no luck.

OMG!! Finally people who dont think I'm nuts.. I'm 43 years old have not been on birth control in over 15 years. This only starts when it's exactly a week from my periold. It continues until the day I start. I will itch and burn for 7 days. For once in my life time I look forward to start my period, that's when the misery is over. The burning and contstant itching. I itch so bad that I use a wash rag to help relieve the itch, I will itch until I make my self bleed. Then its raw and irritated. I do not have VD and I'm very sexual active with my husband, sometimes I even attack him because with him inside me will help relieve the itch. This started about 8 months ago and again like you all the doctors have no clue and says that nothing is wrong. I have tried everything you all have mentioned.. NOTHING works for me. I am so miserable and I end up crying.... I dont even know what to do anymore, I dread the cycle even more so when it comes around. Also, I dont know about you all but I had a tubal ligation about 10 years ago. I've always had abnormal discharge since I was young. Has anybody found a cure for this type of misery. My cyle runs every 20-25 days. I have made another appointment to see another/new GYNO at the end of the month, wish me luck. (please forgive me on my spelling)

I am so relieved that I am not the only one on the planet who has this problem! I am 32 yrs old, no BC, no stds, I've been with my wife for 2 yrs. I always know when my period is coming, not because of the extra pimples that pop up out of no where but because it'll start to itch down there. I tried lotions, drinking extra water... Nothing helps until the actual period comes. I dont know what to do.

It's changes in your hormones. Visit the U by Kotex sit and it has all info about it in there. I have the same problem, googled my symptoms and found I by Kotex' answer. It's to do with estrogen levels rising and leaving you with a dry and itchy vagina. But it is common.

I'm not on any kind of birth control. This has been going on for about 10 years. I have been to the doctor and he give me some cream. But, when my period go off I stop itching and the cream breaks out my husband.

It's just the hormonal changes that come with getting your period. Also, your vagina becomes less moist before your period so that sometimes causes irritation.

Thanks for the info! I've been wondering why this happens. Some months it happens and others it doesn't. But it is always right before my period and then stops once my period is over. I am also on Ortho Tri Cyclene

Ive only recently started having this problem regularly and I've been on birth control for 6 years. I've read up on it, and assuming theres no discharge and stuff, its caused by estrogen levels being out of whack hence making your vagina dry. This makes it itchy and I'm assuming the burning occurs because of the itching (I dont know about you, but i itch so much, i cause it to bleed sometimes. so that would make sense that it would burn lol).. so theres nothing really that you can do. I like to use vagisil, or any external vaginal itching cream. I find it helps quite a bit!!  I just put it everywhere on the outside and put a pantyliner (I use quite a bit !). it makes me less itchy, and since im not itching as much, the burning goes away too. I try to use it when i wake up in the morning, around midday, then at night.

I hope this helps!!! :)
