For nearly 2 years I have had issues. It all started with a 25 pound weigh loss, urinating all the time, stomache cramps and chest pain. I have been taken to the hospital by ambulance from a cardiologists office and had a cardio cath for chest pains. I have had so many GI test. Finally I had a hyda scan which showed my gall bladder working at 16%. I had it out and expected to be better. It has now been a year since the surgery. I still get stomach cramps after eating, I am very beloted and my tummy near my belly button looks like it is 6 months pregnant. I have trouble taking a deep breathe, have dizzy spells and heart palpitations. My vitamin D level is so low and I have had 4 sessions of taking 50,000 units of D. I also have horrible muscle aches in my arms and legs. I now have a weight gain, feel exhausted all the time and find it hard to function. I need help finding an answer or possible tests to have completed. I have a GI doctor, but he is coming up short on his conclusions. I am at my wits end. I want my happy energetic life back. Thank you so much for anything you could offer. I really appreciate it.

Hi snickers, I understand you have a GI doctor but what tests have you been run? Have you been tested for IBS, Crohn's, and celiac disease? Those are all three diseases and disorders that would cause problems like you're describing at least off the top of my head so I'd like to see if that helps you out at all. If you could, just let us know how you're doing and if there's anything else we can pitch in to help of course I certainly will. Thanks and let me know!

Hi illy, thanks for your input and I'd like to know if you could tell me a little more about having colitis. I am not very familiar with the disease and I'd like to know how you're doing with it and what you do to cope. Can you let me know please?

hi bluedog, i have had stomach/bowel problems for years was told by my doctor (without testing me in any way) that i had irratable bowel syndrome(ibs) which has no real medical treatment. for years i put up with feeling awful until i went to another doctor who sent me for a colonoscopy and was finally diagnosed with coilitis, this is a disease which requires medication, sometimes surgery. i do not have it severly (yet) what bothers me the most is when as a result of coilitis i am low on many vitamins and minerals and symptoms range from hair thinning, bad skin, bad teeth, pale skin and lips, pain, tiredness, breathlessness, dizziness, weakness, heart palpatations, god i could go on. i found that if i took vitamins and ate a high protein diet i felt great. my friend has ibs and has v similar complaints as me so you definitely should ask for tests. good luck let me know how you get on or if you have any tips for me!!!!

Hi illy, thanks for enlightening me a little bit. I was not aware of what colitis was but I am glad to know about it because I know people who could have it. As for digestive health, honestly, I've been eating Activia yogurt and it has worked wonders for me. Have you tried it at all?

hi bluedog, i love those activia they r lush and glenisk natural probiotic yogurt is lovely too. i think i could have a dairy allergy because when i eat yogurt or probiotic drinks i get pains in my tum do u get them? i also cant eat fibre so things that they say r good for ur digestive system actually r bad for coilitis suffers and i was following a diet rich in brown bread, fruit, raw veg, even things like bran or weetabix make my symptoms worse. i have a limited amount of food i can eat but since trying a protein shake for breakfast and lunch i havent looked back i also have a meal and a couple of snacks a day. i try to cut out white bread pasta rice etc the shakes i take are like a meal replacement and have all the vitamins i need. it works for me but not everyone i suppose...

Hi illy, it is possible that you have a dairy allergy because I certainly don't get an upset stomach when I eat anything. I don't know if that is a normal reaction so you may have to cut it out. I only had a pain once but that was just because I was starting out, I think. How long did it take you to develop this plan for eating?

hi bluedog, i could have a dairy allergy actually this would explain the cramps after yogurts etc!!!! i did read that with coilitis you develope alot of allergies. as for my diet well i needed to lose weight and as i cant always eat salads/veg/fruit/brown bread, rice, pasta etc i did some research and found that protein is very well tolorated if you have coilitis also liquified food is more easy to digest the shakes work well for me and they are quick in the morning with 3 kids. i find if i start the day with protein shake i can actually tolorate even "bad or banned" foods during the day with no consequences. i just do what feels right for me its alot of trial and error.

illy I totally understand. There are people in my life who have awful cramps and issues like what you're talking about so I feel bad for you in that you have colitis but I know that you will be able to handle it just fine. I definitely think that the shakes are a good way to go, and it's always a good idea to start your day with a good foundation like that. Glad to hear things are going better for you!

this is mainly a problem of a build up of bad bacteria in the intestines. Look into the SCD diet (special Carbohydrate Diet). It will cure crohns, IBS,colitis, celiac disease etc, and the symtoms will fade away.
