I had posted on the previous page about how I decided going off the pill. So it has been a little over a month. Emotionally I do feel much better. I do sleep better. The very next day after going off yaz my eye twich did stop. But now that it has been pass a month I have twitches once again. Sometimes I don't feel it but it is visible. I also have been getting random twitches in my legs, arms and on my face. I don't know if this was caused by yaz It could be a brain/nerve thing I need to check out.
My first period after going off yaz was fine and not scary heavy as I thought it would be.
I have decided back in june that I will not be taking any type of these hormones. I had no reason to in the first place only because I didn't want heavy periods.
I did go to the Gyno last week for my annual check up. I was sad she did find a polyp on my cevix which she was able to cut off and send to the lab. Also she felt one on my uterus which I have to go to get a ultra sound to see if surgery is needed. I understand that BC can create these growths and continued usage will help them grow more.
Wishing everyone all the best

Hello...I was referred to this site through a friend after experiencing similar symptoms. I am a 32 year old, non-smoker/non-drinker, in good shape, and live a fairly healthy lifestyle otherwise. I started taking Yaz about a year ago. Approximately 2 months ago, I started having episodes where I would feel panicky, nauseous, faint, heart palpitations, racing pulse, increased bp, numbness around my mouth/arms/hands, blurred vision in one eye, irritability, night sweats, bloating, and abdominal cramping (like ligaments stretching when your pregnant, except I wasn't). These episodes would last anywhere from hours, to days, with no warning, rhyme, or reason. I have been to the ER, and my doctor's office. I've had EKG's, lab tests, and a pelvic ultrasound- all came back normal. It wasn't until I read some of the other posts on this site, that I considered that Yaz may be the reason. I contacted my doctor today, and went in immediately for an ultrasound of my legs, and a CT of my lungs...I haven't heard anything yet, so I'm hoping that no news is good news...in any case, I'm done taking Yaz. I am so sorry to those whose stories I read that experienced more serious complications, and hope for those who are reading these, that you will seriously consider the risks involved with this drug when deciding whether to take it/continue taking it.

While your right in that the right side controls the left side generally, clotting refers to a blockage of blood vessels which have little to do with controlling your movements and sensations. The arm would feel numb do to lack of blood/oxygen reaching that appendage in the case of a clot. However if an injury (physical/chemical) had been sustained by the right hemisphere of the brain, then yes, the left side of the body may lose function.

Now that that is cleared up, I am a 20 year old non smoker and college student who experienced the harmful side effects of Yaz, which had been suggested by my doctor to help me get my periods since I did not get them due to being insulin resistant. I had been on it for a year when I sneezed one day, triggering the worst headache I had ever experienced, along with vision changes and vomiting. After being rushed to the ER, CT scans showed I had three clots in my sinuses. After a week of hell, an angioplasty and a week of in hospital recovery, I am now on warfarin for at least the next four months (I've been on it for two now) and have been taking Diamox for the past two months to reduce the swelling of my optic nerves, which resulted in double vision and not being able to drive for a month. Diamox is horrible, your hands, feet and face tingle a lot, you are constantly having to use the bathroom, and you get dehydrated REALLY fast. Not to mention that certain foods and drinks like carbonated beverages and cake frosting produced a metallic taste in your mouth so repulsive that you wanted to spit them out immediately!

My daughter, who is 15, has been on Yaz for a year to help with painful, heavy periods. This past spring she had surgery for a vein tumor. They called it a Cavernous Hemaginoma, I think I spelled that right. Anyway, they said it was a cluster of veins that got tangled up and created a large veiny lump. We were told it was something she was born with nd sometimes these things happen. After reading these posts I'm wondering if her problem was caused by Yaz. How do I find that out?

Hi, I am 18 years old and i had been on yaz for 3 months when i started getting this weird electric shock sensation in my head. They lasted about three seconds, but they were happening about 50 times a day and came with severe dizziness. My muscles were also spasming and I felt like someone had turned on a movement switch in my head or something. I was hav panic attacks, and my mom had to take me to the er because i thought i was having a heart attack because my heart was racing so fast. I have never had anxiety before, but my doctor gave me adavan and told me i had an anxiety disorder. The shocks seemed to subside for a bit, but recently they just came back full force. I went off yaz, and have been off for about three weeks. I got an mri and everything came back normal. I went to the neuro for the shocks, and she have me a 80mg treatment of prendisone, which seemed to escalate the shaking and give me the most severe migraine of my life, leaving me in bed for six days. I went off that, and went to a new neuro, who have me migraine medicine, which has helped the headache signifigantly. I still cant stop twitching however, and the shocks are still there. Does anyone have any advice? This past month has been awful, and Im wondering why they even sell this pill? Or could it be something else?

I'd just like to share my story really quickly. I was put on YAZ when I left for college two years ago. About a month into the school year I began having strange side effects. We attributed my nausea and loss of appetite to being in a new school and being anxious about classes etc. Then what happened next pretty much damaged me for life. I experience 5 terrible Urinary Tract Infects in the matter of one mouth. The first one was so terrible that I couldn't walk, I couldn't move, I was screaming in pain. It ended up leaving a scar on my bladder for life and I am extrememly sensitive. No doctor could give me a reason for this problem, until I saw a urologist. He told me that YAZ is a actually a diarrhetic, which they don't tell you. This is what was making me throw up every day. The bladder infections were also caused by the birth control. After I switched to a new product, all my symptoms were gone.

I have used YAZ in the past and never noticed any problems. I switched birth control for awhile and then stopped taking birth control all together for about six months. When I started back up a few weeks ago with YAZ. I noticed I was having heart/chest pains. I was suddenly waking up in the middle of the night with a very abnormally rapid heart beat which I could feel pulsating throughout my body. I am going to discontinue the use of this product ASAP! Thank you to everyone for sharing their personnel experiences. It was very helpful and I wish you all the best of luck with your cases.

I don't know if this is because of the yaz but my doc wants me to keep taking it for at least another month. I don't know. After reading most of your posts I think I might just stop taking it.

I have posted a blog about the serious side effects of Yaz and I agreee that they may be more risky than was advertised through commericals and other ads.

Can you tell me more about your blog on Yaz? I know we can't post links but I'd like to hear more about it if I can. Thanks :)

I am a 34 yr old woman with a history of menstrual and ovarian problems. After 6 months of bleeding, horrible pain & incredible weakness, I underwent a D&C to clear out my uterine lining and an endocsopy to check for endometriosis.

A small polyp was found in my uterine lining but no endometriosis.

I was placed on Yaz to promote monthly bleeding and to mitigate PMDD and menstral pain.

I'm not looking at a calendar, but I believe it was during my second pack of Yaz that I experience the most terrifying "episode" while driving with my daughter.

I was suddenly stricken with visual disturbances, followed by left sided hand numbness that climbed up my arm, into my face & even included my tongue & teeth. I had my baby with me so I did not go to the ER. The episode lasted about 45min-1hr.

Two days later my PCP ordered a brain MRI which was read as normal. I have NO history of migraines or "episodes" - at least not until I started Yaz. I have not been able to get to the ER during an episode because my infant daughter is always with me but my doctor believes I am either have mini-strokes or now have migraines.

Since the initial episode, I have had two more and they are getting progressively worse. The 2nd episode was in July and it lasted several hours. It too began with visual disturbances, followed by left sided numbness & peaking with a headache and fatigue.

The third episode started with the visual disturbances (more severe this time: I couldn't even see that my hands were attached to wrists), progressed with left sided numbness & followed by a 4hr migraine. I could not open my eyes nor move.

Again, I have NEVER suffered from migraines or even regular headaches. I believe I started Yaz in May, first episode was w/in 6wks & they are becoming worse.

I cannot believe medications such as this one continue to make it to market. I am terrified that I am having mini-strokes or that I am at risk for blood clots, etc.

I am stopping YAZ immediately.

After hearing this, and being 18 years old and having Diabetes as well as being a smoker, I think I will stop taking YAZ. I just started a couple days ago and have had horrible abdominal pains, as well as shortness of breath when I am outside. I have also had random pains in the rest of my body and while I was walking outside today one of my legs became very heavy and hurt to move. Along with this, the same side as my leg, my knuckles on one my hand, just one, have turned black, almost like they're bruised. However I can't remember hitting anything and they don't hurt.

Do you think I should seek medical attention ASAP and stop taking it?

I first started taking YAZ at the age of 15, after having an abortion. I took it for about 4 months and then stopped when I was no longer in a relationship. I am not sure whether it was the relationship or the birth control, but the depression and anxiety had gone away.

I am now 18 years old, and had been taking Yaz for about a year. In the last year I have push everyone away from me, quit my job, almost did not graduate due to lack of attendance, and have attempted suicide multiple times. The anxiety and depression took over my life, the reason I started taking the birth control was not even happening anymore. My boyfriend finally started looking up things about YAZ and the side effects. He came across these stories and had me read them.

After reading all the stories I am convinces. I needed to get blood work done once a year for the last 3 years, I have the results from before and after I started YAZ. My physician claims I am not more or less healthier than when I was not on YAZ. I have had a sever headache every month after the first completed month. It begins in what feels like the back of my right eyeball and slowly work its way down to my shoulder, it lasts from 1-2 days normally and starts at night. I can usually count on the fact it will come the week before my period. The last 3 months I have been getting these "weird electric shock sensation in my head. They lasted about three seconds", it sounds like a radio signal going through your head. The thing that affects me the most is my depression, I have noticed when I miss a couple pills in a row I actually do a little better.

I am finishing this pack (1 week) and then stopping all birth control except condoms, for 3 months. I am scared and convinced it is the YAZ. I will keep people posted. Thank you all so much for posting your stories.
