Just wondering if anyone has run with a pedometer? I'm considering getting one because I tend to have a few 'set' trail stretches that I run and... well... I'd like to start keeping track of the distances. (They're technically bridle trails, so they don't have mile markers along the path.) In the past, I've always run on the basis of 'time', anywhere from 30 min to an hour each run. I would like to do more than 'guestimate' my trail distances. :)
How accurate are pedometers? Do they get in the way at all when you wear one while running?
What brands are best? I wouldn't need anything fancy with heart rate or stopwatch functions or anything.. I have a HRM for that stuff. Are 'cheap' pedometers just as good?
Please help. Thanks in advance. :)

I have very, very limited experience with pedometers. My husband uses one, and we've found that it usually measures off somewhat. His is a relatively cheap model bought at a sporting goods store. If you can find one that has to be calibrated, I think you'd get a better idea. If you're simply looking for an approximation, then I think a pedometer would suit you well.

Does your bike have a cyclocomputer? Can you take it on the bridle trail or is it for horses and pedestrians only?
Your bike's computer will be much more accurate than a pedometer.

I got a cheap one for Christmas. It has to be calibrated to your step length, which would be accurate, but my walking step length is quite a bit difference from my running step length, and my step length when i only run a mile is different from when i run two or three miles. I'm still trying to figure this thing out.

Never had any luck with pedometers while running. The cycle computer or GPS are how I got my course readings

Yes, my bike has a cyclocomputer, but these trails are for horses & peds only. I would do it if I could...
Cappy, a GPS is a great idea, but kinda pricey, methinks. (Are there any under $50 yet?)

You might want to check e-bay for the first Timex GPS watch. There may be a few places that are unloading the older version.
