To everyone with long bleeding, go to your doctor. This happened to me years ago, and I was diagnosed with polycystic ovarian disease and endometriosis. You may have to get several opinions to finally be satisfied with a diagnosis, which I did. I was initially put on the pill to control the bleeding, which worked, but after stopping the pill, the problems were worse. In other words, just because the symptoms had stopped, that didn't mean the diseases didn't progress. Anyway, it's really hard for me to get pregnant, but I have two kids so far! You CAN go to your GYN even if you are bleeding. They may opt to do an ultrasound instead of a manual exam, but it will help you. Or, they may just give you hormone shots or pills to stop the bleeding, so they can evaluate you better. Just don't let them put you on any medication, including the pill, long-term unless you have a specific diagnosis and several treatment options.

I`ve had the same thing . Well it started with two periods a month, then about two months ago it didn`t stop. It was only spotting but then about two weeks ago it picked up, to a very heavy period. I went to the dotors and they did tests and they came out normal too. She also told me to lose weight. About three or four days ago it i stopped bleeding, but i started to see blood again today. Does anyone know what is doing this???

I don't know if i'm normal or not no longer. I had my first period in year 7 (age 12). Since then i never go through an once-a-month period. One time i didn't have a period for 7 month! That year i only had 3 periods in total!!!

My period doesn't stay long as well. One time i had it for one day! Then 3 or months later i had another that lasted for 4 days! Then it repeat. *sniff* life really confuse and wreck people, ne? I went to see a doctor and he told me it was just my hormones acting up, which i think really was the cause. But now, after not having period for 3 months, it started. The period lasted for 2 weeks, nonstop. It wasn't heavy at first. But after 2 weeks, my period did stop for a day or so and then started up again, this time very, very heavy. I had to throw away so many undies because of this. My pants get stains as well since it's too heavy. I even used my mother's pad stash! Today is my 3th week (adding the not too heavy period of 2 weeks, it's 5 weeks!!!!!). I don't know what to do no more.

I don't know if this is related, but right before this troublesome period start, i signed up to gym and was working out 3 days a week, also i jog 5 days a week. I also experienced, or am still experiencing, some heart and tummy pains. The pain lessen alittle, but the problem still stay at bay.

This worry me very much. Is it that i am abnormal? I felt like it since the first time my period was late 3 months in grade 7. I'm 19 years old right now. I worry that maybe i'm abnormal, or maybe this is a cancer or disease, or that my ovaries are dying or something that might result me to have a baby. Please reply!!!

I was just wondering if stress could cause a prolonged period? I am in college and have had finals this past week and most definitely have been stressed trying to study and get things done with the semester nearing an end. I have been on my period for two weeks and a day now. It hasn't been heavy at all. I was just worried and wasn't sure if I needed to see the OBGYN or if this was normal for stress.

I am so happy I found this site. I too have been having my period for close to three months now. I kept thinking it would go away, but it just hasn't. It isn't anything more than spotting to a very light period, but I am so sick of it and scared at the same time. At first I thought maybe it had something to do with my IUD, but now I just don't know. I will be making an appt for sometime this week hopefully. If anyone else has found out any new info about what is causing this for them I would love to hear it. You can email me at _[removed]_

Thanks

Hi I'm 16 years old, and I'm experiencing the same thing as you. I started having my period when I was about 11-12 years old and had regular periods. I haven't had sex yet, but I would masterbate like once or twice a month (but not putting anything in my vagina) and lately I've been having IRREGULAR periods. I haven't had them since november of 2006. and I'm really scared. I take prescribed drugs for my pimples, but my doctor said that it does not affect periods. SO WHAT IS WRONG? Can someone please tell me? I'm really really scared :(

I'm 18 years old and my period has been going on for so long it is literaly killing me. first of all i would like to thank all of you especially the first person to post about this topic. i thought i was dying and i was the only woman in this world experiencing this. now i was on birth control pills about 2 years ago and i stopped taking them because i could no longer afford to pay for them. i just quit em. after that my period became so sparse and irregular i used to forget i had one. last july i had one that lasted 15 days and i didnt have another up until 3 weeks ago yesterday. like most of u it started out light but these past two days it's been unaturally heavy, even from when they at one point were regular. it's scaring me. the prospect of something being terribly wrong with me makes me not even want to go to the GYN. it doesnt really hurt that much, just the occasional cramps. i am so afraid and any words of advice would be welcome. i am stressed out from work and family issues but i think that thats irrelevant. help me ladies. please.

I recently experienced a 3-month-long period. I went on Depo-Provera because my doctor thought it would help with my very painful periods. Unfortunately, I didn't stop bleeding until the doctor started me on oral contraceptives, which were supposed to give me only 4 periods a year. I had one about a month into the pills. Then, 2 weeks later, I had another one. I stopped taking the pills and am now on a mildly painful period which is so heavy at times that it feels like I am leaking urine. I don't currently have health insurance so I can't go to the doctor a lot. I'm just so frustrated and scared that something's really wrong. I've always had pretty heavy periods and have a family history of endometriosis, which is what my doctor thinks I might have. I had a child in May 2006 who, while healthy, came a month early for no apparent reason, according to my doctor. Since then, my periods have become increasingly horrible with each passing month. I can't help but think that all of these things are connected. Am I just jumping to conclusions? If anyone has any ideas, suggestions, or just general input, I'd love to hear it!

Wow am I glad I found this forum! I am 46 years old and my period has been tapering off over the last 5 years or so, but now, as of today, I have been bleeding like a regular period for about 8 days now, and have never had anything abnormal happen like this. I am eating healthy (actually dieting, but on a good program: Lindora) and am taking vitamin supplements and additional iron and drinking a lot more water. I am almost sure that I am peri-menopausal. I feel for all of the younger ladies with this problem. I do hope that someone comes up with some answers for you! I will report back in a few days with what is happening to me. I know this thread is probably the furthest thing from anyones mind, but I hope for the benefit of others that come later everyone that posts will post what happened to them or what they discovered! Thanks everyone in advance for any input that you have!

I work in the health care field and being overweight very commonly causes heavier/prolonged bleeding. If all other tests have come back nl (including an US) the weight probably is the cause even if you have always been heavy. I have seen many patients who have lost weight and periods have improved.

Well, I am just updating on my own post. I am on about day 13 of my period, and the flow is exactly the same. I am taking iron and vitamin c together every morning. I have been doing some reading and it looks like this is definitely a menopausal "symptom". I am going to start exercising more to see if I can help get my homones back into "whack". I am not really scared, as I am pretty sure because of my age this is my problem. I'll update in a few days. :)

Well, it stopped yesterday. Actually, it tapered off, and then is completely stopped today, so it was about 2 weeks long! That was strange, but I am grateful that it is gone and I am most likely okay. Other than getting old, lol!

I started exercising more (increased my cardio and did a bit more with the dumbbells) and I also "cheated" on my diet as I was on a weird plateau. I cheated with sherbet and cookies, and then did more exercise to compensate and went right back on my program the next day. The cheat day is when it stopped.

Hope this info helped someone!
