I'm reading some posts, and a couple people have said they've had this or that surgery "on the NHS". What is "NHS"? National Health Service? What is that? Is this something in Canada, England, etc - everywhere else but here in the US, something refered to here as "socialized medicine"?? Just curious.
Thanks.
Thanks.

NHS is as you say the National Health Service. It was a service set up in Britain back in (whatever year) and means that we pretty much get completely free healthcare. We pay extra tax from our wages which goes towards it though - but saves a lot of money when you need a major operation!
Eyecare and Dental care all still has to have some paid towards it - although usually very small fees, and everyone is entitled to free eye tests.
A lot of people do choose to go private however, which means they have shorter waiting times and more personal treatment - although they have to pay a lot for it!

The NHS (national health service) is what all our healthcare in england comes under. you can go to a doctor or hospital and get treatment for free (maybe not prescriptions).
we also have a private sector in healthcare which you have to pay for but as most people cant afford private healthcare the NHS does fine!
we don't pay for tests or anything like that - yay! :-D
hope this has helped a little!
