I hate that we are all living with this!! My story goes....I was training for an Ironman Triathlon last September and while running trails stepped on an acorn, broke my foot badly and had a screw put in my foot. Well.... within a couple months, after the cast was taken off....RSD was diagnosed my 3 Dr.'s. I did do Spinal nerve blocks that helped a bit. The thing that helped me the most was a treatment I had done in March-- Calmar Pain Therapy. I went up to Rhode Island and spent 12 days ( 10 days of treatment). I knew of 2 people who had gone up there and had amazing results. Pain levels from 12 to 1-2. It has taken about 70% of my pain away. Please look it up and let me know if you have ANY questions. I was a sceptic until day 7 of treatment, then I started to believe because much of my pain went away.
This disorder is HORRIBLE. I can't do so much of what I used to do. I have 3 kids and Coached Cross County, have a Fitness Business ect., it has been the biggest struggle of my life. I have dreams that I can still do all the things I love.
I pray for everyone with RSD daily. YES, we need to get the word out and educate more. I have read about a RSD Research Center in Tampa, but don't have enough info to pass on.
Keep pressing on! Trust God will help up through this!!

I'm newly diagnosed with RSD. I've been fighting with my doctor for years about my arm pain. I've been diagnosed with:
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome- Had surgery in 2007
Tennis Elbow- Had 6 weeks of the most painful Physical Therapy I ever experienced
Tendonitis
Finally, I saw one of my Dr's partners and he recognised RSD immediately and it only took 6 years. My pain started on the inner part of my arm, and now extends all the way from my fingertips to my elbow. The pain is excrutiating, and so is the burning. They started me on Tramadol but after I take it I have the hardest time urinating. So, I also got Oxycodone 7.5mg/ APAP 325mg. I'm supposed to take 1 tablet every 4-6 hours, but I need 1.5 or 2 tabs to lessen the pain. People say it's supposed to make me tired or even high. All I give a care about is that I'm pain free. Oh yeah; sometimes it only works for 2-3 hours and then the cramping starts
I can't even throw a baseball around with my son without severe pain. What does everybody else find helps with the pain? I have an appt in a few days, and I just found this forum today.
Thanks
NICK C.

everyones rsd is somewhat different but almost perfectly alike. the pain, burning, insomnia, fatique and the sense youre getting no where. the first step to healing is recogonize that rsd is longterm and one must be mentally prepared to fight off the complications with all the energy one can mustre. However having a knowledgeable physician and one that is concerned with your welfare is of utmost importance. All the drugs offered are only bandaids to the real problem. Often a bandaid is needed, it can be helpful. Don;t lean on the drugs though. Often times the overall results are worse than the cause. Am I the healer? No but God is and we will soon have a new body. Am I an expert? Probably not but I have lived with full blown RSD for 25 years, over 40 blocks, sytemic tens, sympathectomy, and enough drugs to kill an elephant. I manage and take every day one day at a time and am thankful for my life. Twice I was so bad they called in the family. Lost from 185lbs to 110 and spent almost 2 years in a wheelchair. They even said Id never walk again. 8 months of pt to learn to walk all over when I was only 33. Now after 25 years of this disease, there are many other complications reated to either the RSD or the sympatectomy. Oh well enough about me, it is the mind set and the will of each individual that makes a difference. Live your life to the fullest and enjoy. Dont set around whining and expecting someone to cure or come up with a cure. Be a participant in making this happen. Do research, go to school, get involved with others and mostly, trust Jesus Christ as your saviour and await a new body where no pain or disease will ever attack. God Bless

This message is probably going to get severely edited, if not removed completely...but it's the truth that each of you needs to know.
WE'VE BEEN LIED TO. Point blank. I, like so many of my RSD brothers and sisters, have been on a plethora of medications for a few years now. Taking these medications is harmful to my body in the long run, and I could very easily overdose and die if I got my meds mixed up somehow. I think the worst part, however, is that all of these meds and everything else Big Pharma and the medical community has to offer us doesn't work very well. In my case, I'm on just about the heaviest narcotics, both for immediate release and extended release pain relief, and they barely scratch the surface when it comes to relief. What are we to do, just suffer quietly?
After tons and tons of research, I found what I believe may be the answer (it looks promising to me, at least...)
CANNABIS. Yes, that "evil gateway drug that will ruin your life and kill you and your family." This was not something I warmed up to quickly, I mean hey, I was one of the brainwashed masses with a "D.A.R.E." tshirt in my closet. But when I tried it that first time...the pain was gone. I mean completely. It seemed miraculous to me at the time! So this begged the question, why is it illegal? Why does our government say it's just as dangerous as crack cocaine? Google "why is cannabis illegal" and see for yourself. Go on, don't take my word for it. Do some research. Also google "U.S. goverment owns patents on cannabis" as well as "human body cannabinoid receptors"--that's right, your body actually has a system in it specifically designed for cannabis intake. Just please don't point the finger at me and say "he's a drug pusher" because that's not true...I'm an enlightener. I just want everyone of you that's suffering like me to know the WHOLE truth, and my perspective. I mean, if cannabis is so dangerous, than why has NOBODY (that's 0...zero...zilch) died from cannabis use in recorded history?
Painfree peace be with you, and God bless you, my friends.
(P.S.--If you guys do delete this, I copied/pasted it to a file so I can put it right back up here. Please don't censor the truth, mods...we suffer every minute of every day, all I'm trying to do is share my knowledge with others that may benefit from it...)

Hi TY143, it's been a while and I don't know if somebody was able to help you. I'd been diagnosed with RSD in my left foot approx 20 years ago and listened to my stupid doctor. But that's not important. Here is the treatment which I've found thanks to US governmental agency and which helped me tremendously: DAILY DOSES of ULTRASOUND therapy. I don't remember the ultrasound frequency (it was very low) but this was tested by the doctors at UC Davis, so they can advise you. Now I am using only patches infused by capsaicin and belladonnae radicis, witch I found in Europe. I don't feel the pain and I can walk again. No pills, nerve blocks or other expensive treatments are needed. Ultrasound works on lower extremities and for the upper part of your body supposedly laser is helpful. I hope this will help you or somebody else.

I don't think that pills are the answer for the fight with RSD. They just cover the pain for a while, nothing else. See my reply to TY143 which I posted today.
