What's the best book you read recently?

Wicked, by Gregory Maguire.

Excellent suggestion. Definitely, get to know Elphaba.

I just got done with Wicked and wasn't overly impressed. Then again, I hated Wizard of Oz. (It was a Christmas gift)

I am currently reading Mere Christianity by CS Lewis
Also, Indelible Ink. It's a book of 23 Christians and they each write a chapter about the three books that most affected them. So far it's very fascinating.

It is fairly interesting--I find I'm getting caught up in one thought or one sentence and it makes me think and think.
I have decided to read this book because it was recommended to me as the book that most changed that person's life.
CS Lewis is brilliant.

I actually liked Wicked more than Oz--but, that's like saying I'd prefer to have tooth surgery to getting kicked in the head by a horse. (My dislike of Oz has no limits)

I just finished listening to The Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell, and Freakonomics. I'm currently listening to Blink, also by Gladwell. So far I think I like The Tipping Point best.

I read Mere Christianity about 22 years ago - loved it. One of my favorite Lewis books (besides Narnia) is The Great Divorce.

One of the best books I've read this year is I Am the Messenger by Markus Zusak. It's a Young Adult novel, but is pretty sophisticated.

Wicked was the first book she ever put down midway. And Wizard of Oz is one of her favorite movies. I was shocked, I'd only heard great things before that. I have it, I just haven't read it yet. BTW I'm asking for a book club I'm in, its my turn to pick soon and I don't hear about books until after everyone has read them twice it seems. Its all women, we read a variety of things, but fiction and preferably already in paperback.

I recently got caught up with the Dark Tower series (by Stephen King)...got up to book 3...I'm ready to move on to book 4 to find out what happens to Blaine the mono...

A good rainy day read for sure.

They said the same, quick light read, good if you like Maeve Binchy. (I've got a tall stack of "to read")
