My wife had a miscarrage recently and I was appalled at the response at the hospital. I was hoping to find out either where I can find information of the standards of care in regards to when a women attends a hospital experiencing a miscarrage. We live in Chatham, Ontario, Canada. I have attempted to contact the hospital and I am getting bounced from on person to another, waiting for people to get back from vacations, etc. I asked one, whose title is "Quality/Risk & Patient safety department", and she would not tell me what is suppose to happen when a women comes to the hospital experiencing a miscarrage. In brief, my wife was made to sit in the waiting room, actively bleeding and experiencing the miscarrage, use the general washroom facilities and instructed to come get a pad when she needed one. After 4 hrs, and after seeking out a different nurse, she was finnally given a bed, but at the same time giving the bed the other nurse returned and stated that if there was another individual who had a need for the bed, my wife would have to give up hers. I understand that hospitals are busy and levels of care are based on actual medical needs, however, I feel wronged, not to mention my wife who went thru this.
Thank you for your time and assistance.
