I totally agree with you i had surgery 6 weeks ago and i am still experiencing pain and discomfort. It is never of my mind i am aware of it all the time. I am back at work but don't feel comfortable i have to watch what i eat before i go and while at work in-case i have a BM which seems to be continues all day long. I am seeing my consultant next week for my check up and i have so many things to put to him. At this present time i wish i had not had the surgery.

I am here for the same reason...seeking advice. I am scheduled for a hemorrhoidectomy in September and even though I was warned not to go on the Internet by my doctor, here I am and now very scared and considering cancelling the procedure. I have had hemorrhoids since giving birth to my eldest 30 years ago and was told during my recent exam that I have all three types (internal, prolapsed and external) and that surgery, although elective, would probably be necessary at some point in my life. I figured like other people who have posted on this thread, I might was well do it now while I am fairly young and healthy. The whole reason why I even went for the exam was because I am hitting the wonderful age of 50 soon and I figured I'd be having to schedule a colonoscopy sometime in the near future and just the thought of that combined with swollen hemorrhoids gave me the creeps. I consulted a colon and rectal specialist to see if there was something I could do about the hemorrhoids. Well, greatly ignorant thinking on my part! (And I am actually having the colonoscopy this week coming).
The long and the short of it - the hemorrhoids are a nuisance but not much more. I have a healthy BM every morning, sometimes with very minor bleeding and sometimes not. I notice when I increase my cardio, I tend to bleed more frequently and occasionally be a tiny bit oozy afterward. I do have a very small amount of mucus discharge afterward, on occasion. I, like many women my age, wear a small liner for daily protection anyway. I have had a full hysterectomy (abdominal incision - 6 weeks of recovery - was not pleasant (read: really painful) in the beginning at all but got through it OK).
I have never really practiced home treatment other than occasionally using Prep H and using moistened wipes. I feel like I rushed into the decision for surgery and now I am realizing that it could be a real mistake. I realize that people who have bad experiences tend to be the most vocal but there just seems that there are a lot of very unhappy people during the recovery phase of this surgery. I think I need to talk to the doctor again about the surgery and what methods he will be using. Some of the scarier posts are from several years ago and perhaps surgical methods have improved that might reduce the pain during the recovery.
Does anyone have recent experience or know anyone who has? Thanks in advance.

I too have a hemorrhoidectomy scheduled for September. I am very nervous as well. I have one grade3 internal prolapsed hemorrhoid. Had to seek medical advice because I experienced heavy bleeding at times, and the thing would not stop coming out! Very annoying to say the least. I am only 28 years old, and feel the surgery is the best option for me. Scared YES, but I just keep thinking positive that in the future after surgery I will not have to be worried constantly with this thing and be hemorrhoid free. It is normal to be nervous...Good luck to you. I so GO FOR IT! If all these other people can do it so can we.. right?!

i got them when i was 16 yrs old BC of my preg,I've had 4 kids,im 23yrs old now and they never went away only got bigger and hurt!! but it sounds like u had the one i did..only its been like 2-3 months..im still in excruciating pain and i have a few more...i can barley go to the bathroom,,i try and hold it but it forces itself out and within mins...i cry&have to push my butt cheeks together to go. not only does it hurt but it stays sore for days, bleeds and it still hurts even though its soft.. too much info but Ive always had big bowl movements because my body doesn't regulate itself right but now its smaller like a tampon applicator size and still hurts so bad..idk what to do any advice? i even managed sum how to tear something on inside my dr said it would heal on its own,it did as far as i know, but honestly idk how much more pain i can bare!!pain meds don't even touch the pain and I've tried sitz baths, warm regular baths, heating pad, cream from surgery that kinda numbs it,tried eating a bunch of stool softeners and medicine to help have a bowel movement and it just makes me go so much it irritates it and makes it not only hurt but sore.im not sure my dr understands and hes foreign so his accent throws me off,pls if any suggestions id greatly appreciate them!!!

clayswifey- it does sound like you have a prolapsed one. If I were you I would think about having the surgery. I am 4 weeks post op and so glad I had this operation. I am able to use the bathroom normally, no pain or bleeding. It really is like a different world. I would consider it if is affecting your everyday life.
My surgery was not like the horror stories you read one here...pain wasn;t even that bad. I was more nervous than anything.

I had a stapled haemorroidectomy just 5 weeks ago today.
It has been a brilliant success and I recommend it with our reservation. The "pain" was just a discomfort and perfectly tolerable with simple Paracetemol tablets. Now behind me are those years of struggle continuously needing to wash the area after each BM, every few months a bleeding episode and worst of all, the final issue which made surgery imperative: a substantial bleed while sitting in a chair blissfully unaware. It was so embarrassing. Having all those issues removed from my life has been blissful.

IMimi,
I had a stapled hemoroidectomy 5 weeks ago.
It has been life transforming. Gone is the hassle of washing after each Bm. Gone is the embarrassment of serious bleeding which marked the seat and of which i was completely unaware. Gone is the frequent bleeding at the same time as a BM. I feared the predicted pain post op, but it was nothing more than a few days of mild discomfort. I took natural stool softening products for a couple of weeks, and continue to eat lots of fruit and veg.
