My 7 year anniversary was Saturday. DH bought me a wine stopper from the Brighton store (about $20) and a bottle of wine that a friend recommended.

I LOVE the wine, but I usually recork any wine with the original cork. I have never asked for a stopper, nor have I mentioned I'd like one. On Sunday afternoon, I asked if he still had the receipt because I would like to exchange the stopper for something else. I told him I loved the wine, but wasn't wowe'd about the stopper.

I exchanged it today for a pill box that I've wanted and asked for several times. The whole act of returning a gift was not well received. He would have rather I kept it and never used it.

If it was something that he wanted for you to be sentimental for the two of you to share...keep it.

If it's not...take it back.

I guess it's all a matter of why he'd want to you to keep it. Meaning...he may want to look at that every time and think of your anniversary plus the time you had. That's all I could come up with.

I think asking if you could exchange the gift sent the message 'you bought me a crappy present and I don't want it'. I'm more for keeping the crappy present and appreciating the spirit it was given in.

There isn't anything remotely sentimental about a winestopper.
I think Shannon hit the nail on the head though :( . I don't think it was crappy, I just didnt' think it was "me" or practical.

If it was an extravagant waste of money, I would probably return it. For $20, I'd keep the sentiment.

Return it and buy a bottle of their perfume. I LOVE that stuff! It's about $30-40.
