I am on Keppra, Zonegran and Depakote for multiple types of seizure, also now at age of 49 in menopause. I put lots of weight in past year and I was wondering are meds related or it is just hormonal thing?

I was on Depakote for seizures and I put some weight too, so weight gain can certainly be a result of medication however, some drugs are known to cause weight loss Topamax, Zonegran, and Felbatol. So I can’t tell you for sure. Besides the aesthetic concerns of weight gain, weight gain can cause hypertension, type II diabetes, and cardiac disease and may be a part of the polycystic ovarian syndrome. Consideration to changing the medication should be undertaken.
