Hi, if Zyrtec was too strong for your son the doctor would not have it prescribed. Zyrtec is approved for allergic rhinitis in children two to five years old. Anyway, keep in mind that antihistamins makes sleepy and drowsy. Zyrtec is the first once-daily prescription antihistamine indicated for use for children under six years. It is made as alcohol-free and dye-free fruity banana-grape flavour syrup, children usually like it. It is administered from two to five years 1/2 teaspoon once daily. The dosage can be increased to a maximum of 1 teaspoon once daily or as 1/2 teaspoon given every 12 hours.
