not pregnant..they tell me this is a normal way to start menopause...may never get period again??

The age of 50 is usually considered normal, average age for the start of menopause. But, the start of menopause means that things don't just happen overnight - you probably will still get your periods, but they will be more and more irregular and different. Also, the hormonal changes will slowly start to cause usual signs of menopause like hot flashes, mood swings, troubles with sleeping... of course, all that in more or less extent. But, you are not considered menopausal until you had one whole year without your period.
