Are there any doctors here? My child has been diagnosed with acute disseminated encephalomyelitis, and I need to know more about the way in which this condition affects children. I am worried my son's whole life will change now, and he is only nine years old. Is there anything you can say to put my mind at ease?

I am sorry to say that acute disseminated encephalomyelitis is normally chronic, however I can also add that the disease strikes in periods, after which it goes into remission. This can last for years. There is no need to assume right away that your son's life will be limited in any way, as there is good medication that battles symptoms very well.
