About 2 years ago, I went through a nasty divorce & was also attacked & then stalked by someone I considered a friend. But this is my deal...I have sores on my lower leg from about 6 months ago that I can't stop scratching. I even do it in my sleep. I've been told it's because I have PTSD or OCD.Nothing I do helps. They look terrible & I want to stop, I just struggle badly with this now. I am under a lot of stress. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks for any help.

Hello Michelle,

the awful things you've been through are definitely likely to cause PTSD. And the thing about this disorder is, if it's left untreated, it tends to get progressively worse. Have you been through any kind of counseling or support after the divorce and the attacks? Did a professional diagnose you, or is this something you feel you are likely to be diagnosed with?

As far as the compulsive scratching is concerned, that is something you need to start solving with the professional help. None of us is strong enough to control any compulsion, but what worries me, as well as you I assume, is that the scratching has most likely lead to developing wounds and those wounds will get infected sooner or later. OCD or not, this is a form of self harming and please, find a time or any way possible to get professional help. Even a caring family physician who you might be able to confide at least parts of your story might be of help - but any outside help will at least get you started on the right path to solving this and starting to live normally again.

Please let me know how you're doing - and feel free to contact me on here if it would help you to talk, Nicole
