Hello. I'm 25 year old female and I have some quick questions and I need some quick answers. I'm going to my long-waited vacation on the sea in about two days. You see, about a week ago I started to suffer from sore throat and swollen neck lymph nodes.
I contacted my doctor and he prescribed me two pacts of some antibiotics- I can't remember the name.
So, I should drink it for about two weeks. Soreness in my throat is gone and I didn’t plan to reschedule my vacation but the good friend of mine told me that I shouldn’t go because direct sunlight can harm me, causing me burns, itchiness and redness. How can this be truth?

Well, you must understand that your friend wants only the best for you and she was right. Some antibiotics cause increased sensitivity to sunlight. Exposure to the sun could cause a rash, itchiness, or redness, and you may be burnt more easily. Some can even cause more serious manifestations such as upset stomach, diarrhea, nausea, headache, vomiting, dizziness, or light-headedness.
But, your biggest mistake was the fact that you didn’t write the name of your drug. Not all antibiotics are causing this.
OK, no meter the name of the drug- you shouldn’t worry about rescheduling vacation because protecting your skin with sunscreen and clothing if you are in the sun will decrease the chance of developing these allergy-like side effects.
