My mother has been having problems with stomach in past two months. She finally decided to go to a doctor last week and has been diagnosed with bowel syndrome. I guess that all those irritation she has experienced were not that nave. Could she use Azathioprine for irritable bowel syndrome?

Honestly, I thin that it is not its primary field of effect, but if that was prescribed, I guess it is ok. My father is using Azathioprine, but he is suffering form a severe case of rheumatoid arthritis and it does not have to do much with bowel syndrome, does it? I also know that this medication is antimetabolite, meaning that its mechanism is based on decreasing the level of function of some cells included in immune system.
