I too feel nauseous after taking tramadol. I'm on 50mg, but the nausea doesn't kick in until the next day! maybe because I take only at night.

I wanted to post this to those of you who became sick, nauseous and jittery taking Tramadol-  the drug, besides being an artifical opiate (mild pain killer) is similar to to antidepressant SSRI Effexor in that it inhibits seretonin and norepinephrine reuptake.  That means you have more of these neurotransmitters swimming around in you than usual... tends to help depression theoretically because depressed people may not have enough of these neurotransmitters.

I took Effexor years ago and started Tram for back pain 3 days ago.. The effects are the same.  Extreme sicky feeling the first day... less second, and then it levels out.  This can sneak up on you, so take the minimum amount you need and wean yourself off.  My body recognized the drug so I didn't have the jumping out of my skin feeling I had initially with Effexor, but this is really a dirty molecule.  It can really help though, with the inertia that accompanies pain as it takes the edge off and helps you get moving.  Don't use it more than needed... it WILL make you sick, sick, sick when you get off of it.

I also had these reactions to Tremadol, also heavy arms, shortness of breath and legs felt like jelly and headache..I had these symptoms for a whole day, it freaked me out. We were travelling at time and couldn't find a hospital so I had to suffer it out..I was only on 50 mg and was prescribed this for back pain. I will never take this drug again.

I was prescribed tramadol for a fractured back after I used norco and my mom wanted something that could be potentially less addictive. First couple times I had no problem with tramadol..always had to take at least 100mg because 50mg didn't stop the pain. Took 100mg today around 3pm, then another 100mg around 6 or 7pm. It's not 5:54am and I have not got any sleep. I'm afraid to close my eyes because every time I fall asleep I wake up 2 minutes later gasping for air. I feel tingly, clamy, hot and cold sweats, felt like passing out when I walked around my community to get some fresh air. My face is pale and I threw up a couple times. Needless to say, just like everyone else I will never take tramadol again!! Wish my mom didn't say anything and I could have stuck with my norcos..no serious side effects and I only needed 1 or 2 per day instead on the 4 or 5 I need with tramadols. Horrible drug, scared me into never wanting it again. I'll definitely be choosing my back pain over that c**p!!

After reading a few of these posts! I have a very painful trapped nerve and no other pain killers touched the pain. The doc reluctantly prescribed tramadol. It worked beautifully, yes I felt zonked but it blocked the pain like nothing else. This went on for 2 days, on the third day for some mysterious reason I was violently sick! After sleeping for over an hour I don't feel much better. I don't want to stop the painkiller though because I want to return to work! Not sure what to do, waiting for it to get out of my system first then I will try again after lots of food! See what happens. I was so relieved to be pain free its almost worth it to feel sick, I also feel dizzy and hangoverish.

Oh my God! Took in total seven 50mg tablets over two days, and got so sick, having pain in my hip felt good comparable to this drug.

Never again

Thank you to all those that have shared their negative experiences with Tramadol on this site. I'm currently going through some of the side effects having taken one 100mg tablet on Sunday at 9pm, followed by another at just after 12midnight for a throbbing headache. The first table didn't seem to be having any effect. How wrong I was. An hour or so after taking the second tablet I couldn't sleep. I was literally tossing and turning. When I heard the birds tweeting, probably about 4am, I must have drifted into light sleep for 30mins or so (who knows!). I then realised, in my trance like state, I was itching like an animal with fleas - I have no fleas and rarely itch. Every part of me was itching like I had never experienced before. I felt odd, as if my body was not my own. I couldn't move. At 12noon I hauled myself out of bed and felt worse than hungover. I was disorientated and felt as if the ceilings were closing in on me. I used the wall for support as I made my way to the living room to get the phone to cancel a meeting - I could barely walk inside the house let alone outside. My words were incoherent to the person at the other end so I spoke as briefly as possible. With every word I spoke the nausea made me dry retch. I could stand for no longer than 2 minutes as I felt I would pass out. I sat down and felt worse. I needed a bed. In bed the nausea passed but upon standing and walking it was again no longer than two mins before I needed to crawl back into bed. I have been in bed for more than 24 hours take away the odd 2 mins here and there. I have a hoarse throat, I'm clammy, shaking and nauseous. I then started to vomit an hour or so ago. I took the first tablet on Sunday at 9pm and it is still in my system in the early hours of Tuesday morning. I've taken Tramadol in the past and felt a bit sick and light headed but nothing like this. I thought I was dying slowly and painfully. I don't usually take to google but I did so on Monday afternoon, searching for ' itching after taking Tramodol' . Then a couple of hours ago I found this site. Very helpful. Tramadol may be okay for some, in the past it was fine for me too, but after having such a bad reaction I will NEVER take any strength of Tramadol again. I also started to get a rash with the itching. I even spat a bit of blood - maybe the dry retching. I felt close to death and thought if I'm going to die then hurry up please. I'm in my 30s and live alone. I don't want to experience Tramadol side effects ever again. I also felt a bit loopy. I'm still not right so excuse my war and peace length comment. I just want to say thank you for sharing your negative experiences. It has also saved the NHS money as I will not be getting an ambulance or cab to the A&E. I will ride this out. I don't even feel as if I'm really here or there. Tramadol is a nasty piece of work if you have seen its bad side. I'm off to vomit (too much information I guess!).

Find another painkiller. I had used Tramadol in the past, not on a regular basis, with little side effects -bit of nausea, slightly drowsy. After a long break (a few months) on Sunday night I took two 100mg within the space of just over three hours (one at 9pm and the other just after 12midnight). I had a very bad reaction indeed - described in this thread (war and peace length guest reply!). I'm no GP but why risk it? What happens if your reaction is worse? Could be a timebomb. Find another. In my opinion, I dont believe any person should try and get used to the side effects of Tramadol, which could differ at any given circumstance. For example, If I was abroad and suffered the reaction I did, I would have gone to the hospital - scary to be abroad and sick. Instead I googled and found this thread. Knowing that I am not the only one who has suffered a bad reaction with this drug means that I can stay at home and try to recover, instead of going to the hospital or my GP. That doesn't mean that others shouldnt go to hospital/GP if experiencing side effects. I am not a medical professional. This thread is now providing some distraction from nausea after vomiting. I'm still itching though. I have been in bed for over 24 hours give or take and Tramadol is still in my system! If medical professionals actually experienced bad/severe side effects they would not recommend Tramadol, I imagine. It should be taken off the market, as from this thread there is enough 'experiences' that suggest it can severely effect a minority, which is enough in my view! This drug is not curing cancer it is a painkiller and we have many of those in the UK. Acupuncture also works for me but I don't have a therapist on 24 hour call. I'm not a celebrity or rich!

Tramadol works fine, slightly dry mouth, until 8 hours later when the sweats and vomiting starts. Horrendous side effects! Not worth feeling so very ill to help with pain! Id rather just take paracetamol to knock the edge of pain than go through the prolonged vomiting and nausea

What a bad drug this was for me. One tablet and I was vomiting all day and so dizzy I could barely walk. Ended up in the ER for IV hydration. Never again
