My tonsils were removed exactly one week ago today. I am a 21 year old female and expected the recovery to be a little worse than if I had been younger. On the 5th night, I began bleeding profusely (after following the directions to a T). I was admitted into the hospital and had surgery to stop the bleeding. I lost so much blood, I was almost given a blood transfusion. Will I have to start the healing process completely over? What can I expect now?
Thanks,
Ashley

Hi Ashley,
The process of healing after tonsillectomy is not a simple one. Unfortunately you have experienced that in most harsh way. Bleeding from your wound is an emergency. The process of healing takes time, around 4 week. People usually finish healing process by this time, but not everybody is the same. Have you followed doctors instructions about the diet? You should be on a soft diet first week, and in the end of second you will be able to eat hard food. Water is also important in the healing process.
How painful is your throat? Are you using any over the counter pain killers? People also use ice cream or ice popsicles to ease the pain in the throat
