Hi, my friend is 45 years old male and he told me yesterday that he is very worried about his health because he found blood in his sputum last morning. I know that he was coughing for several weeks already but I thought it is just common cold. I would like to know how serious may be his condition.

Hi, it is impossible to tell how serious may be his condition but blood in the sputum is sign that something wrong is happening in his lungs. Blood in the sputum may be caused by tuberculosis but also may be caused by lung tumors. However your friend wouldn't waste time but he would go to see his doctor and make chest x-ray.
